hello, recently found out that my 3 sisters and i have chronic lyme, most likely congenitally. i had my 2 year old tested and her western blot showed bands 41 in IGG and IGM. my LLMD advised not to treat unless the child is symptomatic, which i understand, but i am still torn.

is he suggesting that maybe her body will take care of the lyme itself (if she has it)? i'm just confused b/c my mother passed away 3 yrs ago at age of 46 after a long terrible battle w/MS (and we now believe she has lyme, too or just lyme). i'm confused that my doctor believes that the lyme could have caused my mom's MS and then at the same time says he would not suggest treating my toddler. woudln't it make more sense to treat her while she is young so it does not potentially progress into a terrible disease like MS or chronic lyme?

i respect my doctor's opinion, but am of course worried about my daughter.

any thoughts or experiences? thanks.

Dear Harmony,

My LLMD will not treat anybody, regardless of Western Blot results, unless

They are symptomatic. Difficult to hear I am sure.

Both of my young children have Lyme. One (my four year old) I am pretty sure

Got it from me. [Frown] I did a pretty comprehensive search

On Congenital Lyme symptoms. I thought he was asymptomatic at first, but after reading

And researching I discovered too many coincidental things.

For example, he was born with a hole in his heart.

He had breathing difficulties at birth.

Slow to reach physical milestones (ie didn't walk until 15 months).

His pinnas of his ears would turn red without any cause.

He had colic as a baby. There were many more. [shake]

All of these things can be related to Lyme. If he had only one

I might have waited, but to find so many objective symptoms.....My LLMD agreed.

It could be your child's body is "handling" the disease at this time.

Try a search for congenital Lyme symptoms.

Sending you positive thoughts for you, your sisters and child.

Hugs,

Geneal

thanks so much, geneal. you are so sweet. i'm sorry to hear about your son and hope he does well w/treatment.

i am ok w/not treating my daughter at this time b/c she really has no symptoms. she's very healthy and surpasses all milestones by far. i am just worried about what it could progress into down the road if she truly does have it. i wonder if it would be better to treat as a precaution, but i don't really know that much about the downsides of it since i haven't even started mmy treatment yet.

thanks again!!
