I've been on abx for 3 days and the pains in my joints and arms are much, much worse this morning.

Could this be herx? If so, would it be okay to take darvocet for the pain?

This is such a wonderful forum!

I've learned so much from all of you!

The only thing I know you don't want to take for pain while having Lyme is steroids.

Pain meds are a personal thing. Some say go for it some say don't. Personally, do what you have to do as long as it won't hurt you to get through it.

There is the school of thought, if you take pain meds as directed, they aren't a problem. Over use any drug and it can be a huge problem.

Mixing the pain meds with your treatment shoudn't hurt. Call the pharmacy if you want professional advice.

Yes, it sounds as if your first herx has begun. Increased symptoms and new ones are common. Pain medications and Lyme, absolutely without question. It is important to keep pain levels and inflammation down as much as possible.

It's not a school of thought. All of the studies show that pain medications when taken directed do not normally cause addiction.

There are, of course, exceptions. Somebody prone to addiction always has danger.

But most addiction to pain medication comes from people taking a higher dose than they are supposed to. So pain medications should always be taken under a supervision of a doctor who understands the meds.

If the medication is left over from a previous incident, then you don't want to take a lot of it for other pain. For example, if it is from dental surgery, it might be a higher dose than what you need now.
