My muscles all over my body feel like they will cramp all the time. If i do aanything were i have to stretch or extend physically it hurts or burns.
Also having major depression about 3 times a day- often around the same time everyday.Anxiety id high nad overall i just feel awful everyday- realy w/ no breaks off.
Firts it started in my biceps and now it has progressed into my calves and upper legs and neck .
I am highly pos on all Lyme tests w/ igg and igm but nothing on co-inf. Those tests include PCR from Mdl,Quest, Igenex and Fry blood smear.
Have been treating Lyme for 2 1/2 years and was on mepron/zithro for a couple of months and then tried Rifampin for a week at 300 mg.
I tried to ramp up to 600 mg aftera week and got crazy muscle weakness in arms and shoulders and alos out of this world anxiety/depression.
I got scared of how i felt and stopped.
Will be getting Rocephine next week thru a different Dr. b/c of insurance change.
After 2 1/2 years of this i am getting worse by the day. Emotionally and physically i feel i am getting close to all i can take.
Thank you for any advice

Rifampin caused me the worst muscle cramps.
Everywhere including my bladder.
I had to double my magnesium intake and take lots of epson salt baths.
I sure hope you get relief soon.
Drink tons of water. May want to get doc to check potassium levels too.
Hugs,

May I suggest checking into leaky gut syndrome?
Also... a break from everything might help? Is it possible.. with the doctors approval of course.. to take off for a month and let toxins clear your system?
I've seen that help a LOT of folks.
THEN.. re-assess the situation and address what is remaining. Also note...
Babs often causes the muscle pain. It often is supressed when Lyme is predominant.. then rears its ugly head when the Lyme is kicked down.
Yes, i have been tested for Babs and all other co's but come up negative
I currrently take Dr. B's recommended Mag Tabs 3x a day.
I took Mepron/ Zitho for about 2 1/2 months and the problem started after that and when i started taking the Rifampin
The thing is i did stop everything for awhile w/ no improvement.
You would think if t were Babs the time spent would have put a dent in it.
Also i took the Fry test afetr all of these Meds and the sample had no Babs or Bart.
I know i can still have the co's w/ a clean stain but if it were clean then i don't think i should be as symptamatic as i am since the stain was clean.

I would look at the leaky gut syndrome then.

Unless you stop EVERYTHING for several weeks to a month, you probably won't. Remember when stopping meds you still can have a herx weeks later.
I don't know the problem... and I am sorry... but I am trying to come up with ideas to consider!

Hi -- I wanted to let you know that bartonella may be a culprit for the anxiety/depression and cramping that started after you started Rifampin. I've been on Rifampin 7 months now for bartonella, but have no positive test for it either. I started at 600 mg and within a week was experiencing exactly what you are talking about. Things came to a head at 6 weeks, at which point I had an emergency visit to his office, and he said "now we are hitting our target". Things calmed down dramatically after about 3 months.
My long-winded point here is that you may want to reconsider treating for bart.....it seems that from your response to Rifampin it ws likely hitting something. And bart is often implicated in long-term treaters' not getting well.

Thanks for the careful consideration Tincup.
Cd-57 - what i can't get my head around,if it is Bart, is how can i be negative on all tests particularly the Fry blood stain and still be as symptomatic.
I could see if the stain were neg and i had slight symptoms but to be feeling the worst ever w/ no let up just doesn't add up to me.
What other Bart symptoms do you have and have you had a Fry stain performed? Not to suggest Fry is the end-all-be-all but seems to be a decent indicator
i will say however some things did improve seemingly after taking the short course of Rifampin.
My headaches and eye aches improved,my stomach seemed to settle down a week after stopping meds(stomach has always been a big problem)
Everything is so confusing . One of the hardest parts for me is trying to figure it all out.Making myself crazy, second guessing everything.
Thanks for all the responses

Babesiosis and Ehrlichiosis are often negative abd BArtonella too if you are testing by strain- there are so many!!!
The people I see do best are those who treat with longterm abx and who treat all major TBDs regardless of serology-
