I was on Doxy for 6 wks. and then went on Ceftin and have been on that for 8 wks.

My lungs are killing me! Could this still be a herx?

Also, I haven't heard of anyone else on here taking Ceftin. Is anyone familiar with it?

Hi there! I was on Ceftin for awhile and I never experienced lung pain.

Are you feeling pain or shortness of breath?

Laura,

I don't know if you are having air hunger or lung pain, but I do know that if the air hunger gets bad enough your diaphragm can hurt like hell. I'm still VERY new to lyme treatment but I can tell you what happened to me.

I was put on tetracycline and once I got up to the full dose it triggered what I can only describe as severe air hunger. Since I couldn't get ahold of my LLMD after six days I went off the medication and now I'm scheduled to see a new LLMD next week.

Even though I've been off the tetra for weeks last night my air hunger was so bad--I can't even describe it. Because I couldn't sleep I went online here and elsewhere and came across the possibility that my air hunger was due to a lyme-induced thryroid condition, and sometimes (from what I've read anyway) a symptom of hypothyroidism is air hunger.

My previous LLMD had said not to take any vitamins because "they feed the lyme" but I was so desperate for relief that I went in my medicine cabinet and got out one of my multi-vitamins that I knew had iodine in it.

It took about fifteen hours but my air hunger has VASTLY improved. I wouldn't say it's gone but it's not the singular thought on my brain right now.

I'm only saying that that is what worked for me and it may not work for you. I would definitely contact your doctor and find out if you can take a multivitamin with iodine in it and see if it helps. I wouldn't take it without clearing it with him though--I don't know what else might interfere with your medication or what your other health issues may be.

Best of luck to you!

Niere

I'm feeling both pain and shortness of breath. It's more like stiffness and tightness with pain. It got really bad when I started the Ceftin and my doc thought it was inflammation from a herx.

I did have these symptoms way before starting abx, just not as bad.

It radiates from my lungs to my throat and sometimes I feel like I'm choking and my voice is affected as well. I also have a strange sensation in one spot in my spine, like pressure, that is directly related to this. When I run my electric massager over that spot on my spine it feels like my lungs will explode.

I had to stop and work up my dosage. I'm now at 1/2 of my original dosage and doc says may have to stay there.

I just didn't know if I could still be herxing after 14 wks. of abx.
