See the Sunday edition, February 10, 2008, Star Democrat newspaper with published letter below.
My personal note to you- After years of working with politicians to try to get Lyme patients assistance, very few have stepped up to the plate to help. Many have worked against us and others still have their heads in the sand.
Congressman Wayne Gilchrest, someone who I have voted for in each election anyway, is one of the few exceptions.
I finally had the pleasure of making his acquaintance last year to thank him for his efforts. He is all I'd hoped he would be and more.
For me, the choice is clear. We will once again vote for Congressman Wayne Gilchrest.
The Lyme disease issue is simply the icing on the cake, because we know he should be in office anyway for many other good reasons.
May I suggest you write to YOUR local paper and support those who care about this growing epidemic.

Letters to the Editor, February 10, 2008
*Gilchrest took a stand to combat Lyme disease*
The Star Democrat's editorial did an excellent job describing the major accomplishments of Congressman Gilchrest, but there is one more to add to that list.
Reported cases of Lyme disease have doubled in the past year and there has been little to no help from the state to control the epidemic.
In fact, state officials opposed bills which would have provided for a much-needed task force, insurance coverage and improved treatment protocols for chronically ill patients, some who have since become disabled or died while waiting for help.
Fortunately, Congressman Gilchrest and his staff took action at the federal level.
Due to their efforts, all of Maryland's Congressmen support and are now signed on as co-sponsors to the Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease Prevention, Education and Research Act of 2007 (HR-0741) and both senators have signed on to the sister bill.
While many state politicians, insurance companies and medical professionals were miserably failing the growing number of Lyme patients, Congressman Gilchrest didn't walk away.
He took a stand for the "little guys," many of whom were too sick to stand up for themselves.

If you think it is not "worth it" to write a short letter to support our cause or to thank people who have done something to help us in a world where very few do... think of it this way.
While sitting here in my nightgown one night (nothing on TV) I composed a letter. No $$ were expended (free) and no required traveling from the comfort of my home.
By doing a letter to the editor I was able to deliver my message to more than 20,000 people, directly to their living room, on a Sunday afternoon when it is too cold for most people to be outdoors.
I think the effort is worth it.
If 50 people did this.. our message would be much stronger.
