Buproprion is the generic version of Wellbutrin and I was suicidal on it after a week.

Today, my daughter picked up her medication, and they gave her the generic form of Wellbutrin. She had to go with the state health plan because my husband's insurance dropped her.

It has to go through special approval, but in the meantime, all she has is the generic.

Did this work for anyone?!

I used to take brand-name Wellbutrin and did well on it. When insurance changed it to the generic form, I was really concerned that I might have problems with it.

At first, I think I might have noticed a little difference, but it could have been my imagination as well. Who knows?

I talked with my doctor(psychiatrist) about my concerns about using the generic form, and he assured me that they were the same formula. He told me to try it for a while and that he would be happy to change the prescription to read: "brand name medically necessary" if I actually did feel that it wasn't working the same.

I've been on the generic form for probably a year or two and things are fine. I personally don't see or feel a difference, but everyone is different.

Can you ask your doctor to specify "brand name medically necessary?" It's more expensive, but it can be requested.

Good luck and let us know what happens!

Thank you all for your input. She is going to try it (she has no choice). The new psychiatrist even arbitrarily lowered her dosage!

This woman didn't listen to my daughter when she told her that a change in her medication causes her to flare, and she can't afford to be sicker due to classes.
