Does anyone out there have shoulder shrugging that happens involuntarily?

I'm eight months into Rocephin and saw this disappear only to reappear over the weekend. Anyone with neuro symptoms similar would you tell me your experience with them?

Hi Barb,

I'm so sorry about the shoulder shrugging coming back; hopefully it's a Herx, and you'll soon be done with it forever.

Dropped by to let you know I'm sending you good wishes,

Magnesium may help relax the muscles/nerves involved in that.

If you can get a professional massage, that would be nice . . . or a friend who can massage soft tissue but stay away from the spine and not dig in around the carotid artery or nerves in the neck.

Keebler,

Can you explain why it's important to stay away from the spine and carotid arteries in the neck?

I have serious neuro involvement, and was asking my masseuse today whether next time we could focus on the spine, so that the spirochetes in the deep muscle or spinal cord are released into the blood or lymphatic system and addressed with abx.

I suggested this to her as my symptoms have recently become exponentially more managable as a result of the addition Lamictal with the Lyrica.

So...should we with severe neuro issues avoid focused massage on these areas?

Best wishes,

I get the involuntarily shoulder jerks too - usually only when I am herxing badly. It is soooo disconcerting and frightening. I did get this much worse on Rifampin, and Rifampin actually causes twitching - so go figure! I did get this on Rocephin as well, but I was on them both at the same time. We should look it up as a potential side effect of Rocephin.

Sometimes the symptoms we jump to the conclusion are herx symptoms are actually just drug side effects. It's always important to do the drug research and interactions with other drugs.

I'd say it's probably not a side-effect but herx.
I get EXACTLY the same, when I'm herxing-
got it on Flagyl, got it on Clindamycin and Azitromycin.
I think the rosephin is working!
Have seen it here on the board that it seems to help many twitchers, along witch fluoriquinolones.
I Highly recommend flagyl! Great to pulse 3 days a weak!
Herx on!

A good friend of mine had this. She would do it obsessively whenever she got nervous. As far as I know, she didn't have lyme.

If you guys have some good suggestions, I may send this post to her.

The shoulder shrugging for me has always been in bed as I'm falling asleep or it has on occasion waked me up.

I've never had it during the day. My lyme Nurse does have a patient with severe Neuro Lyme who had it where she did it constantly all day long.

She spent 18 months on Rocephin and it's gone.

Thanks for the comments that it might be a drug side effect

I believe that's a possibility. It could even be a side effect of the flexeril I take for my muscles.
