I am about to start Rifampin/Zith and eventually adding Flagyl for my Bartonella.
Dr. says Lyme is under control according to my CD-57 tests. I feel reasonably well but still get a little tired after cardio workout. Was on Doxy/zith for the last 15 months pulsed.
My question is:
Has anyone here RECOVERED completely on Rifampin/zith or doxy combo? Do you know anyone not here who has?
I here about alot of patients who get better and then relapse after they go off of it. Also same reports with Levaquin.
If you are well now how long were you on it and what was the combo?

My 15 year old daughter was on a Zithro/Rifampin combo with a 6 week Flagyl pulse in September... we have not seen any improvement... I am sorry... Posts: 24 | From co | Registered: Sep 2007

When I first went into treatment for Lyme, I hit a plateau after about 9 months. Repeated tests for bart all negative, but I had symptoms (not unusual; bart is hard to test for). I think I first had cipro, then zith, saw some improvement but symptoms still there. Then went on rifampin.
I turned out to be one of those people who experience serious gastric upset on rifampin, but I stuck with it for as long as I could. And by golly, it worked! The irony is that that is the only med I've ever had problems like that with! Still was worth it. The symptoms disappeared and haven't returned. That was over five years ago.
And I do know other people who've done well on it, and have had no or minor problems with gastric upset. Sounds like a good combo for bart.

Tried to edit, but it wouldn't post. I should have added that the rifampin took care of the bart, but I continued on my Lyme treatment and continued to get better.
I have had to deal with a couple of relapses, but go back to my LLMD as soon as I recognize the symptoms, and we develop another round of treatment. Each time the time I am on abx gets shorter, I get better than I had been, and function at a higher level. Hey, I can hike ten miles, snowshoe up mountains, and shovel snow out of my driveway 3 times in one evening! (Hope that doesn't happen again for a while!)

I don't think 6 weeks is a long enough time to see improvement when killing Bart. I'm on the zith/rifampin protocol and didn't notice improvement until the 3rd month, now almost into the 5th month, I'm driving again, leaving the house every other day, not nearly as anxius or depressed.
My LLMD did add in Cowden's Cumanda to kick more at the Bart and that's brought me some depression and crying jags but it's simply herxing from the herb, no reflection on the Zith & Rifampin.
Will I continue to improve and NOT relapse? Only time will tell but based on my experience the first 2 months are the worst but then you start baby steps in the right direction.

luluhaslyme: I'm sorry. I think I mis-read your post. I guess you said the Flagyl has been for six weeks but the zith /Rifampin combo has been since Sept...hmmmm...that is curious.
Has your daughter been tested for the biotoxin gene? Maybe her body is not able to detoc on it's own?
I have the 15-6-51 gene and have to take cholestyramine to rid my body of the die-off the Zith & rifampin make, otherwise I definitely would not be improving.
Check out the post by sforsgren about mold & biotoxins because that "may" be the reason why your daughter's not getting better.
I also think this is the cause of many peoples' relapses. It's not that the treatment didn't work. It's the fact that their bodies couldn't naturally detoxify all of the die-off and then it recirculates into the bloodstream, keeping the person ill.

Hi, I've been on a Rifampin protocol (Rifampin/doxy/mino) since June of last year. Saw dramatic improvement in 3rd month after 2 months of hell. Rifampin is not a quick fix, it takes time.
My bart is still not gone. Much better, but not gone. We added Buhner herbs for it and I hit the floor so to speak, so I know it's not gone. Bart is really hard to test for, and really hard to kill. We are all different.

Which Buhner herbs did you add and at what doses? I am taking a few.

Cumanda from the Cowden Protocol is also used to kill Bart. I'm taking in addition to my abx and I've definitely herxed on it...but nothing scary...just feel some killing going on when I hit 25 drops 2X daily.
