I am FINALLY changing venues here....been on orals for 3 1/2 years, and now will be starting Bicillin shots.
When I asked as I was walking out the door, my LLMD said I am a good candidate for IV abx,and that he is using something new. I am on the shots for at least ten weeks right now.
Has anyone progressed on to IV abx after bicillin shots? Just wondering how and when to push for IVs; it sounds like some people stay on Bicillin shots for a very long time.

I originally started IM shots before IV's, but I fell so ill that my doc switched me to IV doxy for months. Then after IV therapy I went back to IM shots and found them to work much better at this point in treatment.

Hi Tracy,
How are you?
If I'm understanding this correctly, and with your information from the other thread:
* You've been on orals 3 1/2 years * You're doing 10 days of oral penicillin * You'll do atleast 10 weeks of LA Bicillin * Then you'll go to an IV med after LA Bicillin.
I'm no expert! But it sounds like you've never been on IV Rocephen or IV doxy, or LA Bicillin shots before, or other IV or IM med that crosses the blood/brain barrier well.
Yay! Go for it! I loved 6 months of IV Rocephen and I loved 10 months of LA Bicillin 3 times a week. It really helped my neuro signs and symptoms a lot. Thank goodness. My head feels a lot better.
As far as LA Bicillin shots first, followed by an IV med, I never heard of it, but that means nothing. Why not go for it?
I assume you need to get across the blood/brain barrier.
What IV med will you be going on?
Also, have you been diagnosed with any coinfections?

My LLMD didn't bring up the IV meds, I asked him on my way out the door if I would be a candidate for them. He said yes, and that there is a brand new IV med he is using with great results.
I have only been with this LLMD for about six months, so it is sort of like starting over.
I think he goes along the lines of least invasive treatment, hence the shots now.
I am just wondering if others progressed along this path...just curious? I guess what I am trying to figure out is if it would be a good idea for me to push for IVs next???

I was on Bicillin LA shots twice a week for four months up until about two months ago. Based on my CD57 and C4 numbers, my LLMD took me off all antibiotics and I did OK for awhile. He said my numbers indicated no active infection.
My symptoms have slowly crept back, mostly nuero, so I'm now getting set to do IV Rochephin.
I'm probably going to push my doctor to follow up with orals or IM after the IV. Dropping all abx cold turkey hasn't worked out.

I did it the other way around - IV Rocephin for 5 months then Bicillin Shots and orals - Bicillin ws tough but it certainly killed some lyme as I had Herx's from Hell - Had no Herx on IV
Now doing detox then Co-Infections and then back on IV probably for Lyme
As long as co-infections are treated 1st it really depends on what you Lyme AB's your LLMD then puts you on and of course his knowledge, he will normally know what you may respond well to.
