I have always heard that you need more than 6 weeks. However, I was positive for Babs and treated 6 weeks with 2 tsp Mepron and 1000 mg Biaxin...and I personally do not have any further signs of Babs. Was treated in July last year.
My LLMD stated 6 weeks is long enough, but I do think he is in the minority big time on that!

Thanks for your input. I'll be interested to see if it's just FL LLMD's who believe in this 6 week treatment of Babs.

According to the book by Dr. S. on babesia, it is typically treated for at least as long as the life of the red blood cell, ~4 months. Most are treated until symptoms are gone.
I was on 6 1/2 months of treatment and as soon as I went off mepron, symptoms came back. I've read some people need much longer.
The only reason I can think of that this might be done is if the doctor determines that treating bart is a major priority (like maybe eye issues?).
I'm treating bart right now but will have to go back to treating babs as soon as we are done with bart. While in treatment for bart, I am taking 1 malarone a day to keep babs under control.
I'm not a doctor and I don't know much about treating bart with cumanda only but I would question that treatment and do some research because bart is not easy to get rid of from what I've read.
There could be a lot of clinical experience out there related to cumanda and bart but I haven't heard about it. Short of a large body of data, I'd be insisting on more treatment if it were me.

Thank you for your thoughtful input, TerryK.
My instincts agree with everything you wrote.
We will definitely need to revisit this decision as there were no specific reasons for switching to bart treatment except for this statement:
"that if she didn't treat the Bart it would put a pothole in her heart."
Interesting statement considering that SAME LLMD wanted to take me off of my Bart treatment after only 3 mos (and I'm chronic) and switch me to Babs treatment.

Hi C
babs takes Much Longer treatment - usually over a year or more
It depends on how long you have been sick- the strain of babs you have - other co infections --
Treatment Has to be Contentious -- if you stop or pulse treatment it is like going back to square one -
Dont do that -- Jay--

It took me almost two years of babs treatment to finally kick that co-infection.
I would also recommend hitting as many infections you can at the same time. I made the greatest improvement when I addressed babs, lyme and bart together.
Also, remember to detox!

I agree with TerryK, groovy and savebabe......it took me forever to knock down Babesia!!
First round was 7 months of zith/mepron/art, and as soon as I went off that I started going back downhill. Another round for 4 months.
Was tested after first year of treatment and it was still present in bloodwork......so 4 more months of ketek and malarone this time. I'm still not sure it's gone, but it's definitely better than it was!!!!
WA-1 is much harder to get rid of supposedly also. I had Babesia microti and it took forever!!!!
