Hi there [Smile]

I know I have seen a lot of people talking about burning ribs and pain but so far I have not seen anyone mention the problem I have with my ribs.

My ribs hurt but it's not a burning pain it feels more like my ribs stick out too far whenever I breathe in.

If I lay down flat, it's a lot worse.

So my question is, have any of you ever had that kind of a feeling in your ribs?
I get it on both sides but it is worse on the right.

So, whatcha think?

Steve

Hi FF [Smile]

Thank you, I'm thinking either I'm alone on this feeling or I'm not explaining it correctly. [Smile]

Got it bad today, makes breathing feel weird but not labored or anything like that but it does make me get anxiety, I hate when that happens! [Smile]

Since years now I have a pain in my left lowest rib (very seldom I have the same on the right side).

It feels like someone keeps grabing or pinching the muscles of this area in his fist - I cannot explain it better. And it's far worse when I lay down.

Could that be the same as you have?

my suggestion is to find a Doctor of Chiropractic in your area that knows how to adjust ribs. IME their movement can be reduced, causing symptoms like you describe.

One good way is to ask friends, relatives and coworkers who they would recommend.

Hi Gabrielle [Smile]

it's not that I feel pain as much as they really feel like they are all sticking out too far, so when I breathe in, it gets even worse and freaks me out! [Smile]
But yours sounds the closest to what I feel so far and may be the same thing. I can tell you I have had this every day for years now and have told Docs, just got strange looks from them.

Ralph
Thank you and I shall look into that also! [Smile]

MusicMan, I may have had the same thing you did. Are you uncomfortable when you lie down in bed? What about when you are sitting straight up in a chair? Does it feel like your rib is digging into you?

I had an ultrasound of my spleen and liver done, and they didn't find any inflamation. The only other thing it could be is that I broke my sternum a couple of years ago, and it doesn't feel like it healed completely.

But sternum aside, something weird and unexpected seemed to have helped it. I started taking nutri-cleanse for other reasons (I am trying to de-tox my system) and it actually made this pain go away. Maybe something with your stomach/intestinal tract. Maybe if it's swollen on the inside, it is pushing your ribs out?

MusicMan, I think this is worth mentioning to your doctor. It may be that your ribs really do `stick out too far' when you breathe in. It could be something that a chiropractor or osteopath could correct, but it could be something more serious. Especially if you have noticed some oddities with breathing or anxiety when this happens.

For instance, ``a chronic pulmonary/respiratory problem can cause changes in the thoracic (rib) cage, such as increased anterior-posterior chest diameter (barrel chest) as a result of increased pulmonary hyperinflation''.

There are also some spinal variations that could cause or contribute to the problem, such as:

Lordosis: An exaggeration of the forward curve of the lower part of the back, sometimes called sway-back; an abnormal forward curvature of the spine in the lumbar region.

Kyphosis: Outward curvature of the spine, causing a humped back; a permanent curving of the spine that makes somebody look hunched over. Roundback; Hunchback

I'm not a doctor or anything and I'm not trying to alarm you, but I saw these things happen with my father. So, I would certainly mention to my doc.

Hi there [Smile]

Sorry, have not felt well enough to reply.

WT

Ya know? You may have a point there!
It is worse lying down but only if I am flat on my back, if I turn on my side it's actually better.

TF

That's some scary stuff there!
But I see a lot of Doctors and have mentioned this to quite a few so I think I'm safe as far as those really scary ones go, I hope. [Smile]

As the weekend went by I kept on trying to think on the whole thing and what it feels like.

It feels more like a muscle thing, the breathing problem is not that I can't get a good breath, it's just that as I breathe in, I get that feeling and it scares me.

Any kind of a scare for me puts me to an anxiety attack right away but I don't have an actual breathing problem.

I saw my MD last week and he did the regular listen to the lungs and heart and said I was fine so I'm thinking muscle combined with nuero that is causing this.

Thanks for all your help everyone and if it gets worse or I find out something from my Doctors, I'll re-post about it.

Steve

Psoas girl here with news from detox land.

Sometimes pain in the lower ribs comes with tension in the psoas muscles.

They are long muscles that connect in the groin, under the lower ribs, and in the middle of the back.

We tend to feel them at their connection points. They get tight especially when the groin lymph nodes are congested.

Here's a picture:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psoas_major_muscle

If this is the case with you, it might help to try doing some muscle release inside the hip bone area, and keep up with your detoxing.

Hey Bejoy! [Smile]

I checked that picture out and I'll tell ya, that looks very close to where the uncomfortable feeing is coming from! Right down to even the feeling in my back.
And it is mostly lower ribs and lower to upper back.

How do I do the muscle release thing, or where can I find out how. I don't do the detox thing and have never done any kind of detox in well, never! [Big Grin]

Thank you [Smile]

Hey Steve,

There is loads of info on detoxing on this forum.

If you want to post a new topic on how to detox, you'll get great answers, and also make them available to others via the post title.

For muscle release, you can gently massage the muscles where they feel tight and sore, just inside the hip bones.

Energy work is also great for this. Put your fingers on the tight muscles, and imagine you are directing energy into them through your fingers.

You will feel them start to warm up, and you'll feel the release up into your ribs and back. Sounds kind of "out there" but it works.
