A Gift of Life Turns Deadly
Missed Cancer Diagnosis Gives Four Organ Recipients Disease in Rare Case

A Gift of Life Turns Deadly

This is why anyone with Lyme should NOT donate organs or blood ever.
Let alone all the coinfections.

Unfortunately I got my new driver's license with the donor notation put on it before I got my diagnosis. I just told my husband that if it ever comes up that in no way can I ever be a donor.

Saddens me actually, especially when I think of all the people out there that could use something that I might no longer need.

Didn't I read somewhere that according to the CDC if you have lyme and are "treated" (*snort*) you can still donate, but if you ever test positive for babesia you can't? Not that I believe the lyme part, but was just wondering about the babesia part.

niere,

on your DL license, take some typing label tape, etc. and cover your organ donation showing NO..I HAVE LYME DISEASE!

if you are REGISTERED as a donor somewhere, contact those people as well. [Wink]

I agree with Betty.

I also told my family that I want my body donated to science. Who knows? Maybe someone can figure this sh*t out.

I think you can find that on the Red Cross site.

Yes, Niere...you should get it covered because you could die at the same time as your husband and no one would know.

also, babs isn't mentioned.

in their long questionnnaire is a question though on MALERIA, and i commented to person taking my answers that BARTONNELLA is the same as that illness; 1st she had heard of it and told her supr. afterwards.

i don't know if you could do this ALSO, but I'd contact your STATE'S DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION, VEHICLE LICENSE DEPT., and ask them to add to your ONLINE info...

NO, TO ORGAN DONOR; you have lyme/co-infections!
***********************************************

just in case you're in any type of accident and your wallet/purse DISAPPEARS, and they have nothing to know WHO YOU ARE!

it's worth a try! above situation is an outstanding situation why we should NOT take things for granted.

in oprah's online LYME letters we sent asking for a program on lyme, 1 hospital patient received BAD LYME/CO-INFECTION BLOOD, and now has this because of the blood transfer!! [cussing]

Thanks for the good ideas--I will act on all of them. I'd hate for someone to have to go through lyme, especially when you have to be on immunosuppressant drugs that I believe are required for most transplants.

Which now that I think about it, pretty much leaves us out of luck if we were to ever need a transplant, huh?

Better get on that milk thistle I picked up. [Razz] [Wink] [Smile]
