Okay, my symptoms came back after going off antibiotics Jan. 1. They came back Mon Night and by Wednesday my LLMD prescribed amox. to get started. I started taking the same dose that I did before. (4000 mg taken over 4 doses)
Wednesday night through today I have had fevers of 102 constantly, rising to over 104 even while on Ibuprofin. The joint pain moved to the shoulders and hips to the point where I could not move, literally, from the neck down. Thoat got much more sore and I could hardly swallow. I was in the ER getting stabilized yesterday as we needed them to help with the fever. SED rate over 100! They wanted to admit. We said no. (Been there!)
Basically, it was like my symptoms only the worst yet.
I did not react like this at all the first time I was treated months ago.
After reading through my LLMDs literature, we decided that this was a Herx and I stopped antibiotics.
Is this a Herx. If so, how long should I be off antibiotics?

I am so afraid of the Flagyl Herx that I read about on here. I think I may have just had my "first" one and I ended up in the hospital.
I am supposed to start Flagyl with my amox. I just stopped the amox because of what appears to be a severe Herx after only 2 doses. I never had a Herx before.
Should I still start the Flagyl or wait a few days until I hopefully can get back on the Amox.
Any tricks of the trade to not Herx as bad? Anyone not Herx on Flagyl?

Amoxy was a tough drug for me. You might want to ramp up on it rather than start out with the full dose all at once. Take a week or two to get to full dose.
Personally, I'd wait till I was on the full dose of amoxy before starting the Flagyl.
This is all stuff you want to run by your LLMD of course. He should be told you had to go to the hospital.
I never stopped meds .... but I did cut back.
Most take Probenecid with the amoxy to keep it in the bloodstream longer.
Welcome to herxville! All you can do is rest, drink lots of water, drink lemon water .... not much except to ride it out.

Thanks. I will call LLMD tomorrow. Doctor down here said he will work with his guidelines. We'll see how it goes. If not, back up to the Midwest!

So you weren't on amoxy on Monday, just since Wed??
A herx often occurs on the 4th day of beginning a new med....congratulations! You're right on time!
If you stop the meds, you stop until you feel better....usually only 1-3 days. In your case it may take longer.
Yes, call your LLMD.
hugs!
