Anyone experience puffiness or bloating in the lower abdomin (below the belly button)? Is this a symptom of LD or perhaps a result of long-term use of Doxycycline...perhaps yeast related?

well, I look more like I'm 3 months...I'm skinning and just beginning to show a bulge in the lower abdomin. Still, it's strange...I wonder if antibiotics could be messing with my small intestines?

In my case it's not body fat, but puffiness from inside (underneath the abdominal muscles)....so perhaps yeast overgrowth in the intestines is the cause?

Does anyone have experience or advise regrading yeast overgrowth...and the best supplements to fight it? Perhaps Acidophilis milk?

I have the same problem. I'm assuming it's both Lyme and overgrowth. It gets worse when symptoms are more active. So it's likely both with all the antibiotics I was on.

I'm now off antibiotics and rebuilding my guts. I'm using the VSL #3 right now, but I can't stay on it for too long since it's so expensive. I'm trying to find an anti-candida plan as well as a strong probiotic that are both simple to follow and easy to acquire.

Hard to say unless you say what you diet is like.

Bloat is a symptom of many things.
What other symptoms do you have besides the bloat?

Sure sounds like yeast.

I wouldn't do the acidophilus milk. I think a high quality probiotic would be best.

I personally like Theralac .. www.theralac.com and Whole Foods probiotic by NuFerm.

www.livingfoodsusa.com

But even more important is what you EAT.

No sugar, no simple carbs like potatoes, bread, pasta.

I didn't know Dr. H was an advocate and advisor for Theralac. Check out the website. It mentions tick-borne disease. Dr. S in Florida is also mentioned on the site.

I will try out the probiotics...thanks for the tips!

As for diet, I'm an athlete....trying to train and stay in shape through my battle with Lyme. Thus, I do eat a good deal of grains and some sugars (though not a lot) and a lot of skim milk and whey protein, since athletes need carbohydrates for energy and protein for recovery. But perhaps I can make some tweaks in the diet...

Issues with dysautonomia can also cause abdominal bloating.

I just relized after doing my homework, that if you get the VSL 3 capsules, which have 225 Billion live bacteria per 2 capsules, and there are 60 in each bottle, if you buy from VSL directly, and purchase 2 bottles, you pay 85 dollars (with shipping and or taxes added). That's 120 capsules. Take 1 cap per day, which 112.5 billion bacteria, and you can make that 85 dollars go 4 months. That's a little over 21 dollars per month.

How is that for savings! Now we're talking. Not to mention, if you talk with your doctor, you may be able to get your insurance company to pay for them since there is quite a bit of actual credible scientific research confirming this products effectiveness in treating bowel ailments.

I've had this stupid bloating on and off forever - I hate it.
I thought it was yeast but was off antibiotics for 2 years (and tons of probiotics, antifungals etc)

For me I think it's more of a fluid retention problem and Lyme or TBI related...

I learned from in my Lyme travels that -Sometimes when we eat/drink our body holds onto fluids to try to dilute toxins. that kind of makes sense to me...

I also was traning so I get that you need a lot of protein, but the whey and the milk are going to feed your yeast, if in fact this is a yeast issue, because both contain large amounts of sugar. Not to mention whey and milk could be causing a reaction like lactose intolerance.

There are many other symptoms of yeast in the body, so don't assume it's yeast.
I have terrible yeast issues and never once had the bloating.

Maybe you can switch to Goat Whey and see if that helps with the bloat.
Milk = sugar so stay away from that.
There is more calcium in broccoli than milk anyway.

Good luck
