I had yet another MRI yesterday and after getting out, I went to change my clothes and my chest and breasts were covered with what looked like a rash, bright red splotches and dots. What the hell?
It went away after 10 minutes or so, but I wondered if anyone else has had this happened to them? This was the original site of the only recurring rash I had years ago.
I have MRIs before with and without contrast and that has never happened before. I have had a lot of armpit and chest cramping (my LLMD thinks its Bart) and my chest and ribs have been tender for a long time, even before the latest symptoms, even before I suspected Lyme.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks.

Many of us here believe Electro Magnetic Fields have an effect on killing various infectious disease. At specific frequencies it's possible the infections die, thus triggering herxheimer reactions, sometimes immediately.
There are tons of other possible reasons, but this is one of the possibilities. We call this "Rife" therapy. You're not the first patient to report this.

I sat there thinking: am I imagining this? This looks wretched and by the time I got home it was gone, so it made me feel like a total nutter.
I already have issues with thinking I'm imagining half my symptoms since they vary so much and because for years that was all I heard from different doctors; not to mention the fact that they are very strange.
Thanks again.

Let me know how you're feeling today and tomorrow. It's common for patients to have a Herx reaction when exposed to Rife therapy, and if this is in-fact responsible for the rash (We won't truly know) -- we can possibly understand a little further if there is a connection in your case. So look for a significant worsening of symptoms, the type you'd get when trying a new antibiotic.

The evening of the MRI I felt ODD. I got home and felt like I was burning up, so much so that I had to take everything off, but when I checked by temperature it was 97.5, which was strange.
The same evening I couldn't stand the blankets on me--it was the worst myalgia I've had so far.
Yesterday I my hand joints hurt, I was still cramping in my leg, arm, and chest, but I began feeling some intermitted stomach cramps as well, and rib tenderness.
My temperature was 99.2 all day, which isn't a FEVER per se, but I felt warm. Essentially, I felt as if I had the beginnings of the flu.
Today I have more of the light stomach cramping, rib pain and body aches, but overall I haven't had anything MAJOR happened yet.
I am not sure if that qualifies as HERXing because I have never been on antibiotics. I am getting on an IV protocol soon. I'm scheduling the appointment for the PICC line today, in fact.
What do you think, MB?
Perhaps it was an allergic reaction to the gadolinium, but I will say that I have had numerous MRIs with contrast and have never had that kind of reaction. Then again, I know allergies can just surface....

Hi Allanah,
I've had 4, maybe 5 MRI's during the time I've had Lyme and I've never had any rashes from it. I hope others will jump in here.

Al, I really don't know what it means. There are still many possibilities. Not merely the fact that I told you to "look for" something, could in-fact have led to your seeing things which were already there or perhaps causing them to occur. This is not what I think happened, but it could be argued. It could be argued that you did have a response to the injection, or that coincidentally you reacted on this particular day regardless of if you had an MRI or not.
A way to test the theory would be to have you tested with a Rife machine, though I can't be certain the frequency of that particular MRI used on you. Perhaps you can find out if they know at the hospital.
If we know, we can compare it to the reported numbers we're receiving for Rife therapy. I really don't know if there is a connection, as I said, but it's interesting to at least consider the possibility.
