It seems that CSF Leaks and lyme carry a lot of the same syptoms. when i posted my symptoms on a CSF Leak board a lady has written me saying she could totally relate to my symptoms.

Now i'm wondering if it's possible that I have a CSF leak and not lyme.. or maybe both?

has anyone looked into CSF leaks before or gone down that route with a doctor?

TIA

Christine

What are your symptoms from a CSF leak? Are they similar to low CSF?

My son had a shunt put in about a month ago because he has high intracranial pressure.

I'd imagine the symtpoms would be the same as low CSF- constant headache, possible ear issues such as dizziness, balance, sore neck etc... symptoms may worsen with activity throughout the day. basicially the brain will droop and put pressure on nerves at the base of the head/neck.

i have a lot of these symptoms and the key is that it always seems worse after a lot of activity and at night.

another 'clue' is that some syptoms seem to be a result of position... if i move a certain way things flare up etc...

as for lyme causing CSF leaks- it's possible- I just have to check with my LLMD on this.

Well, A CSF leak will not produce a CDC positive western blot.

I had tremendous relief of my horrible headaches following lumbar puncture. (Though the initial few days were murderous.) I even joked with my neurologist that I ought to come in for a tap every month or so. Ha ha. NOT. [Eek!]

I would think that would be where some diagnostic test results (blood, PCR, urine, etc) would be priceless.

Hubby had a chiro suggest this as a possible cause of his tremors/hedaches. At one point he could actually do some manipulations which were supposed to increase CSF pressure and it would temporarily relieve symptoms.

Neuro was unwilling to do a spinal tap to check pressure -- said hubby's headaches were not severe enough to warrant procedure.

After considering this possibility for a month or two hubby ended up going back on babs meds. Also later found mildly bulging lumbar discs in the area of his back which the chiro was manipulating. LCD spinal decompression treatments relieved back pain.

Pretty sure that Babs was the culprit with hubby and don't think there was an actual CSF leak at all. Think the Babs was interfering with bloodflow to the brain.

Thanks Bea... ya. i'm beginning to lose faith in that theory for myself too. it sounds reasonable but the fact that i'm on abx and herxing seems to put that theory at rest... but babs seems deplete our cells of oxygen so that could be what's causing my issues too.

was your hubby on babs meds and abx at the same time? i never understood how that works.
