Well, I'm drinking milk thistle tea and feeling blue...
My liver enzymes are up and I'm off all abx. No Amox, no mino, no malarone...nuttin' honey. AST and ALT trumped 'em all.
I feel like death warmed over with every symptom rearing it's ugly head and chills and nausea to boot. Babesia and Bart are on their brooms and circling my castle with "SURRENDER WISERFORIT" written in the sky....
QUESTION IS: how many have had detox issues causing their liver enzymes to spike? AND can you heal the liver and restart abx without further aggravating the liver?
I really want to keep going with the abx. I'm scared that this might be another road block to treatment after two years of solid abx treatment.
In the meantime, I've matriculated far enough in Lyme University to know that I'd rather feel bad on abx and think it's a herx.... than to feel bad without abx and wonder if my brain is going to disintegrate or fall out of my ear...
Help?

Sorry about your liver blues. That stinks.
Just wanted to mention-- don't forget about alpha-lin. acid and NAC.

I feel your pain - literally. I had to go off antibiotics yet again because of a liver spike - although that came back down - but ongoing pancreas elevation for the first time - now gallbladder problems.
My Bart is worse than my Lyme and the burning neuropathy I've suffered for five years is beyond painful now. I feel like jumping out of my skin. My soles are sore again and can barely walk. I don't like being on antibiotics, but being off is terrible.
But the other reason I'm writing is that I survived actual liver failure from Ketek - had to be off antibiotics for five months, backslide to the beginning, was facing a possible liver transplant. I did survive, and was able to go back on antibiotics, although my LLMDs and I pick my antibiotics very cautiously and I'm limited as to which ones I can go on. Plus I have my liver enzymes checked every week or two now.
So I'd say you'll be able to go back on.

Jill E -- gosh, you've been through alot! I'm glad your liver is still with you, and I'm saying prayers that your gall-bladder and pancreas step in line!
I tried Ketek and was only able to handle it for 6 days. Later on I read about Ketek being risky. How long were you on it before it took it's toll?
Also, Jill, which abx have you and your LLMD found to be "liver-friendly" for you?

Perhaps you could take some herbs for babs/bart to keep the load down while your liver heals?

Hi again,
I was on Ketek for seven weeks.
Amoxicillin is metabolized much more through the kidneys than through the liver. In fact, I was on it, but along with Rifampin, when the pancreas and gallbaldder issues arose. My doctors and I had months of discussion about whether to risk Rifampin for me because it is so hard on the liver, but I have such bad Bart, we tried it - but I stayed on half a dose.
So you might ask your doctor if Amoxicillin would be OK for you.
I never had any liver issues with Doxy or Omnicef.

Have you tried a product made by Himalaya called "Liver Support" (formerly Liv52). It's a wonderful Liver Detox.
I was on ABX for over two years and on Diflucan for two with no liver issues. I took two with breakfast and two with dinner. I'm not taking them now becuase I'm off abx and Diflucan (on full Cowden) but I'll go right back to it if I ever go back on ABX.
You can get it the cheapest at vitacost.com (I should buy stock in that company - I tell everyone who will listen about it - LOL)
