Obviously we all react different to things however, I was wondering what helped most?
Herbs, abx, acupuncture, ART etc. I'm really trying to figure out what has been the most succcessful for the majority. I'm awaiting an appointment with an ART practioner but in the mean time need some alternatives?

I credited much of my getting well to my detoxing, and I still think that plays a big role in my ability to handle the drugs, but as symptoms were returning I knew it was because of the abx that I got better.
I was still doing all the detox when the symptoms started coming back .... now that I'm back on abx, I'm herxing again, but before my herx, I felt better already.
So for me, # 1 is antibiotics, #2 is detoxification.
I think ART is a great way to determine what your body needs. Unfortunately, I do not know of a practitioner in my area.

Snowboarder,
My antibiotics program, which changes. No doubt about it. There is nothing like multiple, prolonged antibiotics that an LLMD prescribes for you, as an individual.
Supplements that are basic, essential: good quality mercury-free fish oil gelcaps, magnesium (magnesium malate if you have muscle pain,) a good multiple, and 50 mg B-complex.

Getting treated for Babesia 3x.....and then my best combo was Biaxin and doxy - last Spring....felt best ever.
Been off meds since last July and doing the Cowden protocol. Having good and bad days....and lots of allergies right now

Just basic--gotta have--the starting point.

I totally agree with what daise said, so I am going to be lazy and just quote her here.
A good llmd is the starting point, and then hanging in there because treatment takes a while.
I had severe neuro and physical symptoms after years of untreated lyme (and babesia as it turned out). Am much better after over 20 months of multiple abx!
And keep getting better too -- there seems to be no end to the bacteria, as they can sequester in the body. That seems to be one of the reasons long-term treatment is needed.
The other essential is probiotics, multiple types, several times/day. Despite almost 2 years of oral abx, my gut has never been in better shape -- which I attribute to taking large amounts of many different types of probiotics. Jarrow acidopholis is one of my favorites.
Best wishes for your recovery. Just remember it can take time.

In a nutshell, what helped me the most was aggressive high doses of IV, oral and IM antibiotics multiple combinations of antibiotics at the same time. Treatment for over 5 years until symptom free Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) monoplace therapy X 200 dives, exercise!, chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage and physical therapy, plus yoga, mediation, good sleep and healthy diet low carb!Positive attitude and supportive friends who are going though the same thing!

Definitely changing my diet - though I go back and forth with sticking to it, which makes me go back and forth with lapses in how I feel. But when I stick with it, I feel great!

Hugs for Geneal.
I love your posts.
I went through a year of treatment before I got on Lymenet, as I was too poor to be on the Internet.
I got my information from Denise Lang's Coping With Lyme Disease.
And from Dr. Burrascano's 33 pages of tips for 2005 at www.Lymenet.org (click on "Treatment Guidelines.")
That's why I keep promoting these two sources, especially! These helped me, when I was all alone.
I had no problem with the ILADS / IDSA battle. It made perfect sense to me, after being ignored by so very many doctors.
I found out the Lymeland name for such doctors: Ducks. Not But a civil word: ducks.

I'm sad to say it but the abx did nothing for me.
I tried them for 8 months. I know people here will say I didn't do them long enough but they just seemed wrong to me for so many reasons.
I'm trying to treat the infection with the Cowden herbal protocol. I haven't been on it long enough to say if it's a cure. I do have faith in herbal medicine.
In the mean time I try to go for walks & do some very light exercise, keep my mind occupied, go to the sauna - there's a great Korean sauna in northern NJ, take oxycontin or vicodin when needed, eat good food, listen to audio CDs with "Hemi-sync" or binaural beats, & I'm starting to get light massage like cranial sacral when I can.
My boyfriend, doctor, & this message board have been a great source of comfort.
I also really like to listen to Coast to Coast AM, research stuff on the internet, or watch movies when I can't sleep.

I tried antibiotics until I had an allergic reaction, then went on to Buhners protocal. Helped tremendously. Am on a combination of Buhners and Zhangs protocal now.

An LLMD you trust. If you can't find one that treats based on symptoms and treats w. multiples and combo abx, you need a new one!

an LLMD who listens and respects your opinion regarding your treatment
for me that was finding the right combination of abx (at the moment amox, biaxin and rifampin) - plus suppliments and probiotics

1) Heparin for hypercoagulaton; 2) B-HRT for missing hormons. Growth hormone was critical for me; 3) Abx especially Rifampin, Zithromax and 4 Malarone and; 4) Diflucan - also knocked out food allergies.

1) Anti-Candida Diet 2) Agressive antibiotics 3) probiotics 4)AIM (alternative treatment found at energeticmatrix.com) Search for my post titled Alternative Treatment for details 5) Detox Epsom Salt and Baking Soda baths 6)learning thatI had the gene that does not allow you to naturally rid yourself of biotoxins and mold toxins.
More info on #4:
For those of you inquiring about how to find out if you have the biotoxin gene (15-6-51) the one that doesn't allow your body to rid the Lyme die-off/biotoxins naturally, here's what you need to ask for:
"You can easily determine your unique genetic ability to remove Lyme's specific biotoxins by ordering a special 5-part HLA inherited gene marker test from LabCorp (test 012542), which is one of the largest labs in the United States".
This information was taken straight out of the article Lymebytes posted by Dr. S in FL:
Also, if you search for the post: "About the LabCorp Lyme gene test/removal of Lyme Biotoxins", (posted Jan 2008)that has a lot of information there, too. You might want to purchase the book "Mold Warriors" by R.Sand Dr. J.S. and learn the whole philosophy behind the theory.
All I can tell you is that it has helped my recovery IMMENSELY. Finding out that I had this gene (and a mold gene) has helped my treatment quite a bit and I think it's essential that anyone being treated for Lyme know this information, otherwise, if you have hte gene, you will remain sick even when you kil off the Lyme.
