I have been on Amox hi dosage for 3 weeks. Maybe, I am herxing and I do not know it.

I am currently experiencing a severe neck pain that radiates down to my right shoulder. this was my first symtom back in 2005 when I did not know I had Lyme. It does not respond to anti inflamatory. the only thing that works is hot infrared sauna and whirlpool

I just assumed that this was standard pain, but wondering now if it could be a herx reaction.

Any comments would be appreciated

what is the dosage that you are on?

were you on other treatment before this 3 week period?

i have alot of head and neck pain

sometimes it is a herx

i have a pt who uses hands on manipulation of my head and neck

helps lymph nodes to drain

she also worked on the dura mater (spelling?) and it relieved some of my pain - she has had other patients with what seems to be the infection in the dura, i found relief with this treatment

co infections, for me bartenella, play a big part in head pain too

have you received any treatment for co infections?

I just started treatment for chronic lyme recently. My first symptom was also severe neck pain, radiating down my shoulders. That was more than 20 years ago.

Last week, after my first few weeks of antibiotics---back it came, not as bad as the initial onset, but pretty uncomfortable. I believe it is a herx reaction.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Yes it could be herxing, herxing is return of old symptoms, increase in current symptoms and appearance of new symptoms.

I have had whiplash and a broken collarbone before I knew I had LD, so Bb really attacks the weakened areas of injury, I hurt there much of the time. But, Amoxi I stayed on very long term because it follows inflammation like this and it really relieved this pain for me.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

Hi Tony,

Yes, it certainly could be a herx!

I'm wondering, though, why only one antibiotic? And, amoxicillin is what is recommended for children with early Lyme.

If you are a kid, please show your folks this thread. OK?

You have had signs and symptoms since 2005. That means you have chronic Lyme disease. But most doctors think that there is no chronic Lyme disease, only early Lyme disease. Is that why you have been prescribed amoxicillin only?

Don't get me wrong, amoxicillin is also used for adults with chronic Lyme--but with other antibiotics. High-dose, prolonged, multiple antibiotics.

Chronic Lyme disease, sooner or later, is disabling. As in SSDI disabling (Social Security Disability.) Often, kids can't go to school. It's hard for them to think and to learn.

That is, when early Lyme disease or chronic Lyme is not properly treated.

Do you know about the IDSA (Infectious Disease Society of America) and their idea of profits over patients? They represent your local infectious disease doctors. Their Lyme guidelines are fraudulent, so says Connecticut Attorney General Blumenthal, from his investigation of IDSA.

May I suggest you go to: www.ilads.org to the left menu and click "Treatment Guidelines." There you'll find both the ILADS Guidelines and Dr. B's 33 pages of tips for 2005. Print both!

You need an LLMD (Lyme-literate MD) who is also an ILADS doctor. You can post for an LLMD under the forum "Seeking A Doctor." You get there by clicking "forum home" near the top of any page.

Please keep in touch, here. It's OK to continue to ask questions!

Hang-in there. Herxes are no fun ... but you know what? A herx means germs are being killed off! Hurray!

Thanks for all of the feedback.

No I am no kid, in fact I am 49 years old. The reason that I am on Amoxicilan hi dosage is that is what my LLMD prescribed. I have chosen to trust his judgement. He had to decide between Doxy and Amox and chosen to start with Amoxicilan. Likely, my next abx will be Doxy.

I did experiment for 3 months on various herbs and suppliments based on seeing my Homepathic Doc. I decided to get off of all of the herbs to see the true impact of ABX. I want to re introduce one Herb, Based on Rosner's top 10 book, I thought about Systematic Enzyme or Magnessium

My neck pain is way better today. Still not throwing a parade, but significanly better.
I think it was a herx. It was nasty. Worst pain that I could ever remember

Thanks again
