Has anyone heard of Doxycycline causing inflammation around the heart? I recently read something in a book about babesosis that stated it as a side effect. This past year I have done 14 weeks of IV rocephin followed by zithromax. Following that I took 300mgs of Doxycycine for three months and made great strides in my book. I had the usual 4-5 days of feeling lousy (herx) and then improvement. This March I experienced what I thought was a herx but this time I had terrible chest pain and pressure. Echo of heart was fine. Also had alot of palpitations and rapid heart rate. I also had night sweats. After 3 weeks came off of doxy. I hate to come off of something that was working so well for three months. Any opions of this? Has anyone heard of this as a side effect?

It sounds like babesia.

I was having the same thing after 5 1/2 months of doxy. There was chest tightness and that is supposedly one of the symptoms. I would massage it and it would go away. I've been off of doxy a week, and it has eased up. It was one of the ABX where I had the most improvement, too.

I started malerone for possible babesia which I suspect is delaying my recovery.

Who knows, the chest tightness may be caused by both the doxy and babs.

I don't have Babs, but have heart palps, chest pain and pressure come and go, many EKG's, chest xrays etc. showed nothing. I think those symptoms can be herx or Lyme related. But night sweats is a classic Babs symptom.

I suffered for years with chest pain coming and going. After many bad, I mean to say, misinformed doctors I finally got answers. This is after being admitted in ICU and having a cardiac catheritization done. Which thankfully was ok, but I also have a lot of family history....

Anyway, it was lyme related, I've been getting treated since September (this is second time around, first was in 99)
I hadn't had chest pain in months but they are back. I am now on doxy, I was getting better as well but they are back.

Not sure if it's truly related to the doxy or not. I will ask that question though. It hadn't crossed my nearly lost mind.

I just feel that my heart is weak, but I think that is Lyme or Babs. I've been checked out heartwise, too, but not lately.

Any more thoughts?
