I have been noticing that abut 1/2 hour after taking my doxy I feel even MORE terrible than I already feel

I get extreme nausea to almost throwing up

Stomach achy

Headache and pressure

more dizzy

and overall feeling of horribleness

Could I be experiencing a herx reaction??? Or is this a side effect of doxy?

I feel Really bad for a while and than it goes back to my regular yucky symptoms....

Is this normal? Has anyone experienced this?

I dont know if I should call my doc or not....but it is horrible feeling after I take the doxy....sometimes I even feel lethargic

Help!!! [dizzy]

Sounds like it may very well be a herx.

Just to be sure, you can call your LLMD and ask him/her about your symptoms after Doxy and I'm sure s/he'll be able to give you more feedback as to whether it's a herx or not.

Part sounds like a herx, but the stomach part sounds like it could be a doxy side effect. I do better with something like Prilosec with some abx that are hard on the stomach.

I also did better if I took doxy with a meal (not a small snack). Don't lie down for an hour afterward ... though you can lean back propped up.

I would call your LLMD.

Thank you Six

My fiance is calling my LLMD.....

He is at work so I am alone, but thank God my daughter is with my mom right now.

I already have acid reflux, but this feels like m y stomach is burning and the nauseas

Than the other bad symptoms like head pain, fatigue, dizziness, body heaviness, and the beat goes on.... that I guess could be herx -related...I am hoping anyway.

Also I keep hearing my heart beating in my left ear...I ahve had that for months, it is so annoying. It almost sounds like waht a babies heartbeat sounds like on the monitor.....It has gotten a little worse since starting the Doxy. I am glad I have an appointment with my LLMD on a week.

Thanks everyone!!!

I know what you mean about hearing your heart beat in your ear. I have that too. It sounds like it's beating in my head constantly. I get that a lot especially at night when going to bed. Very annoying and it makes it hard to actually get to sleep. I can actually count my pulse that way instead of having to check it on my wrist or neck!!! [Roll Eyes]

PS - The burning in your stomach and acid reflux can definitely be caused by Doxy. I had to learn the hard way to take Doxy with food. Whenever I didn't, I'd get very bad acid reflux and I'd feel nauseated and also get burning deep down in my stomach. YUCK. So make sure to eat more than just a snack with your Doxy.

Ok My doc called back and all is well

He said the stomach burning and nausea are from the Doxy stomach effect, but the other stuff probably herx because the abx usually kick in within 10-14 days and that puts me right on the money.

I also asked my Fiance to have him clarify for my OWN sanity if I DO IN FACT have Lyme disease and He said...Well I wouldnt be treating her for it if I didnt think she had it, so yes I DO believe she has lyme disease by my clinical diagnosis backed up by blood work.

OK....I guess thats that!!!

ON with the show!!, just not the show I wanted to be a part of, but hey thats the part I got cast in this time.

Thanks Friends [Smile]

sounds like you have a very high germ load.

doxy hits other infections other than lyme too, so keep that in mind, this usually means you will feel kinda crappy at first.

My doxy days were scary, but worth it. Hang in there the best that you can.

Hi Unexpected,

I couldn't take Doxy on the empty stomach as prescribed. I had to take it with food and lots of water. Like disturbedme, I had to take the DOxy with more than a snack. And they mean it when they say to stay upright for 30-60 minutes after taking it. It can burn the esophagus if we don't stay upright 30-60 minutes after taking it.

And if you aren't doing this already, take lots of probiotics -- wait at least 2 hours after taking an antibiotic to take the probiotic. I notice with myself that I generally feel really miserable the first couple of hours after taking any antibiotic. Once I take probiotics, I start to feel a tad bit better.

There was another thing that my LLMD recommended to me and it has helped quite a bit. He told me to take Quercitin to help reduce inflammation and to help with herxing. For me it helps take a little bit of the edge off the herxing. It does not eliminate it by any means. But every little bit helps.

He has recommended a brand by PERQUE called Repair Guard. He told me to start out with 2 capsules twice a day, empty stomach preferable. But one can go up per the instructions on the bottle to 12 capsules daily depending on need.

Doc has also put me on other enzymes too to try to help with some of the herxing/inflammation. Sometimes it really, really helps and other times I still feel like poop. lol

I had heavy herxing with Doxy.

If you feel as though the Doxy is just tearing your stomach up too badly, I understand there is another form of Doxy called Doryx that is supposed to be easier on the stomach. Some people who could not tolerate regular Doxy, found they could tolerate Doryx.

Hope this helps. Hang in there! Sorry you've been cast in the "LymeLight."

Hugs,
Fuzzy

Unex....

I have been on doxcy for awhile now....
six is right about the eating part and not lying down after you take it....huge difference for me...

.....and yes about 1/2 hour sometimes sooner I get very fatigued....lathargic....which makes me want to lay down... [bonk]

hope your stomache feels better soon....the rest I think is a herx....

Ive been on doxy for about 5 days now. The biggest thing Ive noticed is that my eyes are overly sensitive to light, even with sunglasses on.

The prescription says to either take the doxy 1 hr before eating, or 2 hrs after eating. Ive tried both and have learned that for me its better to eat the meal first, then wait the two hrs, take the doxy, then an hour after doxy, eat something small again. The "sandwich" method seems to help with stomache pains.

Day 3 on the doxy I had hot/cold, shakes, anxiety, couldn't sleep at night & couldn't quiet my racing mind, ...basically felt off/awful.. and I thought maybe that was a herx. But since then its mostly been small bouts of anxiety and big bouts with photosensitivity....

Another 3+ weeks to go... oh what joy...

Doxy is a great drug, wish I could take it.

Take food w/it no dairy, or calcium, magnesium etc., 2 hours before and after.

Do not lie down 30 minutes after taking, can cause burned esophagus.

Will burn quickly in the sun. Doxy penetrates from the CNS to the skin.

Lastly, if you didn't have Lyme this abx wouldn't effect you like this..there would be no herx...this is Lyme w/o a doubt.

Take care.
