Been treating Lyme since October. I switched from 300mg Doxy to 3000mg Amoxicillin a few weeks ago due to doxy sunburn issues.

Had a small herx (I think) the first few days, then felt better.

Now I'm feeling awful. Tired, some twitching, knees are stiff/hurt, malaise, left hand and scalp are numb. This has been going on about a week.

I'm petrified that the Lyme is raging back despite amoxi? But maybe this is a Herx and I just never had one before? I feel like I'm 100 years old.

I never really herx'd on Doxy, but Doxy would keep my symptoms 95% gone. Felt great on 300mg of Doxy last month.

Am I getting discouraged on the Amoxicillin too early? Maybe this is a good sign that I feel really crappy?

Do I stick with it or ask my (non-LLMD who is very supportive) doc for something else? Anyone have good luck with amoxicillin?

Thanks so much,

~webmeg

Have a peak level blood test done to see if you have enough of it in your bloodstream.

I took 2500 mg. three times daily and I weigh 130 pounds.

I also took Probenecid with it three times daily to keep the amoxy in the bloodstream longer.

It does work, but you need high levels and the Probenecid.

I am feeling the EXACT same symptoms with doxy. 400 mg. daily. I am assuming it is stirring things up I have the same question. I could not tolerate amox. at 3000 mg. The anxiety was unbearable. The fact that we both have lyme and treating almost the same amount of time may mean something. Teresa

Ordinarily I would say it's a herx... but I didn't have any response at all with amoxy and it could be that it's not working for you.

Getting your blood level checked may be a good idea, but why not call your LLMD and tell him/her your concerns?

Hope you feel better very soon!!! [group hug]
