Hi all, I have not been diagnosed yet with Lyme, but have an appt. with Dr. C in August (YIKES). In addition to most of the symptoms mentioned here, yesterday I woke up with a stabbing pain in the base of my right thumb. I cannot even grip a pen to write. Has anyone experienced pain in this joint?? In addition, my finger tips are on fire, in addition to being extremely cold. Any thoughts would be great.

I've had really bad joint pain in my fingers, knuckles, etc.
So bad that I couldn't even bend my fingers.
It was really bad prior to diagnosis and treatment.
Of course there was my knees, hips, shoulders, etc. too.
Hang in there. Keep us posted on your LLMD visit.
Hugs,

The pain in the base of my thumb was related to having a "trigger finger" .
What Are the Symptoms of Trigger Finger? you may aask, well let me tell you:
One of the first symptoms may be soreness at the base of the finger or thumb. The most common symptom is a painful clicking or snapping when attempting to flex or extend the affected finger. This catching sensation tends to worsen after periods of inactivity and loosen up with movement.
In some cases, the finger or thumb that is affected locks in a flexed position or in an extended position as the condition becomes more severe, and must be gently straightened with the other hand. Joint contraction or stiffening may eventually occur.
How Is Trigger Finger Diagnosed? No X-rays or lab tests are used to diagnose trigger finger. It is generally diagnosed following a physical examination of the hand and fingers. In some cases, the affected finger may be swollen and there may be a nodule, or bump, over the joint in the palm of the hand. The finger also may be locked in a flexed (bent) position, or it may be stiff and painful. www.webmd.com
Actually I was set to have my hand operated on by hand specialist. But three days before the operation I found out I had Lyme Disease.
I knew enough to know surgery, unless it be life or death, was not recommended for Lyme Patients so I cancelled the surgery.
I did have to wear a metal brace on my thumb for months and months, even while sleeping, but eventually it healed without surgery.
My fingers have recently started hurting again-especially my middle right finger-and if it gets bad enough I will just go straight to the brace. In fact I probably shouldn't wait until it gets anymore painful and do it now.

Hi Havefaith,
manda again
I used to get that a lot too. I remember once I dropped a glass because all at once that cramp at the base of my thumb kicked in, and then a few section later it felt like my fingers were on fire.
That seems to have gotten a lot better. Now, I jsut have some problems with numbness along the left side of my hand.
Dr. C is really good. We gotta figure a way to get you some help before august though...
Is there a Illonois Lyme support group? There's gotta be. Maybe they know of someone you can get into see sooner (while your waiting for Dr. C)

Thanks all~ That is exactly what has happened. It stiffens and cramps up at the same time. Loads of fun. I had some aching on my left hand, but nothing like this. Amanda, I am definitely going to check into the Lyme support group as well. I hope ya'll have a great Memorial Day Weekend.
