I did hear that you can go off antibiotics when you are symptom free. However, I didnt hear that you have to stay on it, months after symptom free.

Just my opinion, but if I began taking abx IMMEDIATELY after being bitten... within 1-3 days, then I would stop abx when I was symptom free for about a month.
If I didn't begin until later than that... even a week... then I would want to be symptom free for at least 2 months before going off meds.
So I guess the minimum would be 6-8 wks ON meds, then minimum of a month symptom free. Total would be 3 months then. YUCK!

I would think at least 2 months, but to be sure, even 3 months. I know the bug I have is really tenacious. I've relapsed several times w/just stopping one drug.

Wow, that is unbelieveable.
Hoping that I REALLY have lymes since there is so much contraversy of testing processes out there, and I can only 'guestimate' when, I think I have had lymes since maybe January. (if I have it)
And my symptoms have almost disappeared on Doxy for 3 weeks and starting Biaxin XL for 30 days soon.
With that thrown into the calculation, I guess I am stuck on meds for
no less than 3 or more Months? How can my body tolerate all this medicine without it becoming toxic to my body?

hi, don't know your bite history, but do make sure to be treated for co-infections. Regardless of test results.

Many people here have treated for years and I mean years for Lyme and co-infections.
I am into my 21st month of treatment. Non-stop without breaks.
Of course I am on my 3rd round of babesia treatment, probably have to go after bartonella again,
And then there is the Lyme.
In the beginning it really is overwhelming.
Taking meds is just part of my daily routine now.
That and supplements and probiotics.
Just look at each day instead of anticipating what you may or may not have to do or take.
I am lucky as my liver enzymes have been normal despite all of my meds.
My LLMD has a remission protocol.
Once you get to two months symptom free while on antibiotics, then you start this.
On Monday you take 1500mg of flagyl.
Tuesday you take 1500mg of biaxin.
If you herx, back on antibiotics you go.
If you don't, then proceed weekly on this protocol for up to 3 months.
If you can remain symptom free on this protocol, then you are officially in remission.
Lyme isn't an easy infection to beat.
Neither are babesia and bartonella.
Try to not anticipate what may be coming up.
That initially depressed me.
You may do well and have a short treatment time.
Hang in there.

Hey CD 57,
Thanks for the tip. I was just tested recently and waiting for the results to come back from Igenex and Bowen, which will be in about 2 weeks.
Can't really say for sure if this is lymes, but I heard drs. would rather treat rather than not. Not looking to being on all this medicine for some other problem.
I actually did want the CD57 test, but it was too late for the lab. I may still ask my regular md to get that test. Did you have it? Is it productive at all in diagnosing lymes?
