Does anyone feel like everything is filled with chemicals and chemical fragrances now, like it's overwhelming them?

I go into Bed Bath & Beyond and the entire place reeks of strong fragrances they pump into the store. I buy replacement sponges for my sponge-wand to wash dishes, and now they've started scenting the sponges. I order some cotton sleeveless t shirts from gap online, and when I open them I have to wash them several times as they smell awful--I know that often formaldehyde and other chemicals are put on cotton. I go down into the laundry room of my building and the building sprays napthalene (mothball smell) to hide the smell of dead rats, and everybody in the laundery room uses scented detergents and bounce dryer sheets AND fabric softener--and by the way, we have soft water, not hard, so none of it is needed. The washers smell, the dryers smell, the air smells. I come up smelling like fabric softener. They clean the carpet in my hallway by pouring scented powder on the carpet and vacuuming it, which doesn't clean it at all and smells like bad air freshener. I walked into a woman's apartment today and her entire apartment was filled with Glade or some scented smell that was so strong.

I keep feeling assaulted everywhere by scents I don't want. These are not natural scents, like flowers, or blossoms, or cut grass or a fresh orange. These are chemicals with pthalates and other carcinogens and toxins that help them stick to surfaces, and they're chemicals that are meant to cover up other industrial chemicals that we use. I CAN'T STAND IT!

It's pretty bad! I agree!!! I just can't go into some stores.

I use all perfume free laundry detergents, fabric softeners, and dryer sheets. It's wonderful!

I would hate having to share a laundry room!!

People really do go overboard with scented stuff! My sister-in-law uses those Glade oil scented plug-ins.

We have to pull out the one in the guest room when we go there. Her house is perfectly clean and doesn't "need" that stuff!! Go figure!!

I stopped my magazine prescriptions because it is impossible to be near them. I asked for a refund and told them why.

The only place where you can't find a place to park is in the garages for the hospitals and doctors offices!!!!!! The stores are getting emptier.

Complain, write, shout, scream! I do all the time and have few admirers left because of it. I want my grandchildren to have a healthy world. It's all I can give them.

Take care.

I hear you. I can't stand the chemical scents either.

I use Sun and Earth Brand Laundry Detergent with baking soda, no dryer sheets. I wear zero perfume. And I use Bon Ami cleanser.

Even Murphey's Oil Soap makes me sick now. As soon as I stick my hands in the bucket, I begin to sweat profusely, so I've had to stop using it. I guess it doesn't matter anyway - no energy.

What this tells me is that my liver is struggling.

Yes, I know what you all mean. Many synthetic chemical scents, cleaners and fragrances bother me as well.

So I have had to throw away all of my synthetic cleaners.

I don't mean for this to sound like an ad for Basic H soap but I have found Basic H soap to be a very safe and non irritating alternative to those synthetic cleaners.

Actually in my opinion Basic H soap is the "DUCT TAPE" of cleaning compounds as I have found it to be useful in so many ways.

You can wash clothes with it, use it to mop the floor, wash the windows, remove stains, you can use it in the garden, you can even wash yours hair with it.

And many organic farmers have their animals to drink Basic H soap water as internal dewormer to kill internal parasites.

And Basic H soap is NON-TOXIC. You can literally eat this stuff.

Basic H soap was even selected as the official Earth Day product.

Yes... there are thousands of chemicals being created every year but no one knows what the long term repercussions will be with all the interactions between them.

If I go to a "regular" supermarket, it's just mind-boggling all the decisions I have to make. There are so many products that I think are completely useless, wasteful, & outright damaging.

My boyfriend has some younger friends & when they come over they wear this harsh perfume. I don't know what it is but some young people put on tons of synthetic fragrance.

Sometimes, I can smell people a block away who wear this stuff. We had to start asking his friends to not wear any fragrance when they come over.

It would take hours to air out the house after they left... It stayed in the air much longer than cigarette smoke. I have no idea why people do this.

It's not like we don't have indoor plumbing & people can't wash themselves...

Yes!!! My boyfriend and I had to move out of our apartment recently because of a mold problem and we're staying at his mothers.

There is literally a glade plug-in in every outlet of the house plus scented candles and she febreezes every inch of fabric at least once a day.

You can't even breath! It's overpowering. Yesterday I finally said something. She was very understanding and really opologetic. We got rid of all that crap and are still airing out the house today!

People just don't realize that you can't "buy" clean. Clean doesn't have a smell - it just is.
Clean is clean - period.
