I just had a conversation the other day with a woman, maybe late 20's or early 30's. She was a competitive gymnast and now coaches. She does not have lyme.
She has had 6 knee surgeries (cartilege?tendons?), and her wrists click ferociously. She said it was due to impact stress on growing bones/joints while doing gymnastics. Whether this was made worse due to youth and growing bones, she could not say.
She has to be careful how she moves, i.e. no quick lateral movements, and she will not "spot" because she may not be able to support a falling body.
So, I dont know if you could separate the causes in your daughter's ankle problem. My personal experience is that the tbd's seem to make me more susceptible to joint and tendon and muscle injury. So, in your daughter's case, both may be involved.
The woman stressed to me the importance of muscle strengthening to counteract the increased potential for injury from tendon and cartilage weakness.
