I have an appt with my LLMD next week, so this week's project is getting my son tested and getting my supplements gathered.

I copied the information on supplements from Dr. B's Advanced Topics in Lyme Disease guidelines, and rounded up as many as I could today.

All these are listed as "required" except for the glucosamine (but it is required as far as I'm concerned...my knees are killing me!)

Multivitamin
B-Complex
Alpha Lipoic Acid
Omega-3 EPA/DHA
Co Q-10
Acidophilus
Glucosamine Sulfate
Mag-Tab SR

My question is: Can I start taking them all at once? Or should I start with only a couple for awhile and then add others in.

I think some you take w/meals others without.

I was told vitamins w/food or after meals, minerals on empty stomach. Bottle should tell you when to take.

acidopholis is 2 hrs after antibiotics. I take mine on empty stomach.

Others here may have other info.

I would start a new supplement every three to five days. That way if something doesn't work for you - you will be able to figure it out easier.

DITTO to what mojo recommended. I always add in ONE new variable at a time. That way, if you have some weird reaction, you know who the culprit is.

Best,

One at a time would be best, but the mix is no problem at all.

Make sure the probiotics are worth taking. Should be high quality or don't bother.

( and yes, 2 hrs away from abx )

Hi Achy smurf,

I agree with everything that's been said: bring in one new supplement at a time and take it for 4 days or so and if there's nothing weird--no reaction--then start another.

On Dr. B's guidelines you'll find info on how much and how often to take. I suggest a pill box--a big one!--for the supplements, as you'll also be starting antibiotics soon, I assume.

Pill boxes are great. Fill 'em up once a week and you'll avoid having to open the bottles each time. If you wonder later on if you took your pills or not, all you have to do is check the pill box.

Pill boxes, I think, were designed with we forgetful Lymies in mind! Try WalMart, they seem to be cheapest. (But terrible quality supplements.)

Keep your pill box and bottles out of heat and light.

I took most everything Dr. B put in his guidelines and took them for several months, while I was waiting for insurance approval for my meds. They helped support my body. I could tell!

There's one thing missing: fish oil gelcaps. Very important. It helps build strong cells walls and helps reduce inflammation everywhere.

I use Spectrum brand because (supposedly) it has no mercury and it's cheap and widely available at health food stores.

You're starting Lyme treatment? Good for you!

this is what i did, and finally my notes here to my newbie package this week....

BettyG's suggestion for taking MANY RX PILLS/SUPPLEMENTS and keeping them straight! This worked for me really well!! 6.6.08

yes , i can see why you are overwhemed;; i was too when i started 22 supplements 2nd llmd had me take.

first, write out a schedule of ALL MEDS with your llmd..
******************************************
* before you start, gather all together and split up or different times to take them!
* I bought 6 of those really large pill boxes they make.
* i have 1 for breakfast,, lunch, supper/dinner
* 10 am, 3pm, and bedtime,
* ok, now get all the bottles for B,L,D and write them down and how many for each meal..
* get those for 10 am, 3 pm, and bedtime together.
* then ONCE A WEEK, i do my pills separating to different times, etc.
* i do the one PILL FOR EACH meal before going onto the next meal.
* so if i have B, L, D//SUPPER; I'LL TAKE THOSE 3 BOXES SIDE BY SIDE and fill each with their dosage.
* then do the same on 10 am, 3 pm, and bedtime.
* my 10 & 3 were REFRIGERATOR ONES..... so i had them by frig; would turn over container after taking that time for that day;next time ... 3 pm would be on top to remind me!
* i also wrote on a SEPARATE PILL CALENDAR when i started and ended each med!
* can someone help you to start with so you are doing this correctly?

Thanks all! I thought one at a time might be smarter, but was thinking 2wks apart. I couldn't imagine how long it would take to get everything going then. LOL

I did get one of those giant pill boxes from Walmart yesterday while I was out. I've got it set up now for this week, adding in one new pill every 3 days.

Next week should be interesting, as that is when I'll be adding the abx.

Off to go see about a cup of tea!

I hate Thursday nights - the night I fill my pill box. But when I'm done I feel great because I'm done for the week!

Betty,

you say you " . . . would turn over container after taking that time for that day . . ."

that helps me so much, especially with early morning thyroid if I go back to bed.
