I can't sleep. [Frown] I can't seem to fall asleep. I was taking ambien for a while, but it stopped working. I was just given lunesta at the highest dose and I took it about 3 hours ago and well, I'm still awake!

I was taking calcium/mag and melatonin for sleep, but my Naturopath said to not take melatonin every night because it shrinks your pineal gland!?

I slept fine on that combo, but don't want my body to stop producing melatonin.

My question is...can I take melatonin every night? If not...what sleep meds WORK???? I just need help GETTING asleep. I take lyrica so that helps me stay asleep, its just getting to sleep that is the problem.

HELP!

Guess what? I can't sleep either... but am going to try in a bit.

You said.. "I was taking calcium/mag and melatonin for sleep, but my Naturopath said to not take melatonin every night because it shrinks your pineal gland!?"

I am not a doctor.. but I've not heard that before and I checked into Melatonin real closely a while back before I took it.

The same combo works for me. Calcium.. but not magnesium.. and Melatonin.

I just forgot to take it tonight and had planned to start back on it as of tonight. Duh me.

Years ago doctors kept telling me to give my child different foods because he seemed to be allergic to everything. They would tell me to try this or that... then come back in a couple of weeks.

The poor kid would scream ALL night long doing this. Not only was the baby miserable and in pain... I was a disaster because there was nothing I could do to stop the pain. In addition, I got NO sleep and was working two jobs.

One day, exhausted and grumpy.. and after this had been going on for months on end... the doc told me to try this food and that food... and come back again in two weeks.

I guess I lost it. Or came to my senses.

I told him if he wanted this child to try those foods HE could take him home with him and feed it to him. I said I am NOT going to do this anymore.... HERE... he is now YOUR baby!

Now why did I write all that?

If you are still reading I figured I would bore you to sleep or...

To say to you.... that sometimes, to get sleep.... we need to do what we need to do. I'd sure get a second opinion on that Melatonin.

In the meantime.. do you really think your gland will shrink up before you do?

Hope you do what you need to do to get the sleep you need.

Night night...

If I didn't bore you to sleep... here is some reading. I am trying to see if I can find anything like what your doc told you. So far no.

If you have ever had the problem where you wake up but can't move... as I have and have seen others describe... this mentions it.

I haven't checked all available info.. but so far no side effect listed like your doc described.

Night night...

I have tried everything. I have tried combos of things, I'm afraid of increasing the dosage of anything that I won't wake up...ever. I tried benydryl. It worked...LLMD gave it the green light too.

Gee I hope it doesn't shrink the pineal gland, because if it does, I don't have one left!!

I've been taking melatonin ( Source Naturals 3 mg timed release ) for about 5 yrs.

I also take Trazodone. Warning on that one. It's a little hard on the stomach, but works great for sleep.

not sleeping is the pits!!

BTW, I heard that non sense about the pineal gland too. Bottom line is it stopped working for me, so I had to move to harder stuff.

Thank-god no klonopin though.

I do take Lyrica...it helps me stay asleep, but that's not the problem I'm having right now.

The problem is FALLING asleep!

Tincup, LOL! Thanks for the links. I will read them. I have heard from many people about the pineal gland, but never really read about it.

I told my LLMD and he looked at me like I was crazy, LOL! [lol]

Benadryl works but not if I take it for more than 2-3 nights. [Roll Eyes]

I will call my LLMD and tell him that this lunesta stuff isn't working. He said he'd be willing to add something on top of the lunesta, so we'll see!

Geesh, I've been giving my 12 year old Melantonin every night for the past four years or so.....I never heard that.

I take Seroquel, 150 mg with Restoril, 30 mg. The two together knock me out in about 30 minutes.

Nothing else has worked for me. I wasn't actually told to take these together, but I recently tried combining them, and BINGO!!!
