I know I'm on here every day it seems with a new question, but I'm wondering about activated charcoal and indoor mold.

I have been on a downward slide in the last two months and attributed it all to my Lyme disease.

However, it looks like my biggest problem right now is actually indoor mold!

I moved into a new apt. about two months ago and started getting sick. (Sicker [Smile] )

Major increase in brain fog, fatigue, new onset sore throat that wouldn't go away and a croup-like cough that also wouldn't go away.

Well, since I moved in I've had a leaky roof that maintenance has come to fix several times.

They would patch it up, but then it would just start leaking again the next rainfall.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a small patch of black mold growing in the corner of the ceiling.

Through my brain fog, I realized this was probably the culprit of all my new symptoms and that it was making my Lyme symptoms much worse.

Let me also say that my fiance has had the same problems as me since moving in, just not as severe.

When he got home that evening I showed him the mold and said, "THIS is why I've been getting worse!"

Well, we packed a couple of bags that night and have been at his mothers since then (She has moved out of state, so no one was living there anyways.)

I have to say, thank God for him, because if it had been a member of my family they would have had the attitude of, "Oh God, here she goes again - first Lyme and now mold! Suuure."

Anyhow, the first week after we left, day by day I just felt better. This last week has been awesome! I've felt wonderful.

However, last night we had to go back to get the rest of our stuff. Within minutes of entering the apt. I started coughing, runny nose, sore throat, etc.

Today I still have a little sore throat and AWFUL brain fog.

Has anyone here had any problems with indoor mold?

I'm also wanting to start activated charcoal. Anyone here used that and if so where do I get it and how do I use it? How much and how often?

Sorry this post was so long! But any feedback would be great!

Lauren

May be that you are more "sensitive" than a bad mycotoxin detoxifier. Most people that are bad detoxifiers of the mycotoxins would not experience an improvement in such a short timeframe after leaving the environment.

Yes!! That makes perfect sense! And I'm sure I've been exposed to mold prior to lyme and it never gave me a problem.

Lot's of things bother me now! Cat hair, dust, anything perfumed - it all sets off an allergic type reaction.

I guess my immune system is just stuck in overdive.

Yes.

I have indoor mold, more of a yeast type smell.

It was in one closet for years and last year we painted killz mold killer paint over it.

Its still in the jackets.

I cant believe we lived all those years with mold in the closet!!!! The foundation shifted just outside the wall so moisture was coming in.

Also we had a water leak on the poorch so there was mold growing out there too!

Before abx I would get sick around mold season anyway. But after abx and the herx I developed MCS>

Now all mold is disgusting to me and I can barelly live in this house.

I make little money every week but I do have a job with full insurance. They have also come down on my case due to me being sick/tired.

Also there is mold in the building where I work that doesnt bother anyone else!

I cant believe it.

I take welchol daily. I am very sensitive to mold and feel much better our of a moldy environment.

I cant even take yeast killers because the toxins poison me.

Just be careful about removing things from your old apartment that may have mold on them. You may be bringing mold spores with you without knowing it.

I have had leaky sink mold problems where I live due to flaky landlords.

I did Cholestyramine but wish I had done activated charcoal instead.

I hope you feel better.

Well Herx I pray that you can move soon...I know I've been miserable for the last couple of months and am thankful I figured it out.

It isn't fair that you have to continue tolerating that in your home and at work.

What is Welcherol? (sorry if mispelled).

I am being careful about that...we actually put everything in the garage for now rather than bringing it in the house.

Let me also say that since being in the apt. my dog started losing patches of hair - large patches! I've taken him to the vet twice and they said allergies and gave me abx and prednisone for him.

Poor baby...looks like he may have been suffering too.

Hopefully we'll all start to get better now...

i have mold issues here too.

thing with me is i got bit by a tick and moved in around the same time frame.

Ive posted before but I had a horrible sore throat that just would not go away. Then it finally did after taking claritin daily for a year. Now, i dont have throat problems ,so wonder maybe it wasnt the mold.

I think since you moved out and you dont have as many symptoms that is a clue that the apartment is making you worse.

For me now that im back on abx, I notice i feel better outside of this house. I think its all about the toxin load in the body at any given time.

I have mold issues in my place too. I won't go into details but it's a significant problem and I don't exactly know how to handle it. I am not even using one of my bedrooms at all as its the worst but I don't know the source of the mold. The bathroom also has what is likely a serious mold issue because of poorly grouted shower tiles letting water into the sheetrock behind it. Its overwhelming to try and figure out if/how to deal with it as I'm a renter not an owner.

Hi,
3 words - Tennessee mold plates.

You simply place these plastic "plates" around your home (read instructions) send them in and they will analyze what your exact mold issues are.

You will be amazed at what grows in these plates, the invisible spores will settle on these plates, it blew my mind to see the mold we have floating apparently out of our air ducts in our home! I at the time, bought the plates but didn't get the ones that include analyzing..dumb, it in only costs a little more.

After doing this if you are a renter, confront the owner or leave the property if molds that cause illness are a problem.

Believe it or not - seeing mold may not be a huge issue, it is what you CAN'T see.

Also, read the book Mold Warriors - available at Amazon- http://tinyurl.com/37nnc3

Here is a link to get the mold plates, be sure to buy the plates that include analyzing: http://tennesseemold.com/shop/index.php

Here are some medical journal articles there: http://tennesseemold.com/medical.shtml

The top 7 toxic molds: http://tennesseemold.com/mold_ref.shtml Click on each one to read symptoms and causes.

Here are a bunch of articles from James Schaller on the subject: http://www.personalconsult.com/pubindex.html#moldandbiotoxins As far A/C for mold read #47 on this list..I believe it does help (he refers to it as activated carbon).

Take care.
