I am 37 years old and pretty healthy except 4 days ago I woke up with a headache and overall achiness.

Headache in rear base of skull persisted and neck pain became the most difficult sympton to deal with (especially first thing in the morning)...some upper back muscle discomfort too.

Finally went to primary care physician on afternoon of 3rd day - specifically requested a Lymes test. Dr. did not think it was Lymes because no memory of tick bite and no sign of rash. Blood drawn and told I would get results in 3-4 days...could be up to 10 days for Lyme results.

Went home and got in tub to try and relax the aches...discovered bullseye rash behind right knee. Not sure when that showed up - I don't typically do a full body scan each day. But I think the rash is worse today so I am hoping that I 'found' it in the early stages. Dr. never even looked for evidence of rash!

I found the rash at 8pm last night and decided I was right about Lymes and wanted to start antibiotics ASAP. I have a friend who is a doctor (not Lymes related in anyway) who called in a prescription for 100mg Dioxicycline 2X a day.

I spent a little time on the internet and took it upon myself to double the daily dosage to a ttoal of 400 mg/day. I started taking pills last night 60 hours into symptoms. So far no side effects of medication but no real change in symptoms.

I am hoping I caught this early enough and with an aggressive antibiotic regimine I can keep this a 'one time incident'.

So I would like to follow up with a Lyme Doctor specialist to make sure I am not missing anything or doing something wrong.

UPDATE:On a good note, I am 48 hours into my Abx and feel remarkably better. My neck pain is almost completely gone which is making a huge difference in my life. I even got outside and finished up some 'manual labor' that needed to be done. Helped cook dinner, clean up and put the kids to bed. I haven't been that functional in 4 days.

The rash behind my right knee seems to be fading, it was worse on Saturday then when I found it on Friday but is better today then yesterday. I am taking daily pictures to document/compare.

Oddly, I think I might be developing a new rash or two. One in the lower center of my back and on on my left rear thigh. I am not sure these are the same things as the one behind my knee. They are way smaller and much less 'intense'. Not the kind of thing you would think twice about if it wasn't for the main one.

Does anyone else have experience with this? Supplemental rashes appearing after abx. started and other physical symptoms dissipating?

Thank you all for the information on this website - it has been a godsend!

Mark,

My husband started on 400 mg of doxy and within a week 90% of his symptoms were gone. After 5 weeks, he developed a rash and some of his symptoms started reappearing within a day. We had our first LLMD visit while he had the rash and they said it was a result of something being killed off in him and toxins being released. The rash disappeared on its own in about 5 days.

I'm glad you found the rash and are taking pictures. Definitely find an LLMD to see. Getting the right treatment early on is key to your success.

smjkoj:

How long did your husband have Lyme symptoms before he started on Doxy?
