We don't hear too much about this species. And the treatment recommended for it is nasty and may be more risky than the infection itself--gentamicin+doxy, both IV.
I hear that the Fry Labs are doing bartonella IGG/IGM panels and that a lot of people are getting positive b. quintana panels. This in addition to the mystery bug.
Any know? Thoughts?

My husband tested positive for quintana through Fry and my son tested positive for both quintana and henselae through Fry.
I have not heard that there is different treatment for that strain but wondered about that.
Just curious, where do you live? We are in S/E Pennsylvania.
Where did you read about a different treatment for quintana?

I'm from CA and was infected there. I haven't tested positive for it (yet) but have been doing some research into it, as I think my symptoms seem indicative of it. I have never tested positive for b. henselae (not like that means anything, we know by symptoms that I have it).

hi cd57 for your information I tested very positive for bart.H and Q -rose from 64 to 2048 (igG).Neverthelesss I was negative in the european reference lab. That tells me that the antigenes used in the commercial test kits in most labs is not that spcific and crossreacts to other pathogenes. As I have the postive haemobart smear I suspect thats it. gale

Tickbattler, I did research online about the treatment used for chronic bacteremia caused by b. quintana in the homeless populations (mostly in france) and the treatment was IV gentamicin for 14 days and doxy for 28 days. Too bad gentamicin is so nasty that it may be worse than the infection.
Galehane, can you expand on what you mean? Where did you test positive for b. H and Q? Are you thinking you really don't have b. h or Q but this mystery bug?

I am the same as Gale. Tested positive on the anitbody test at Fry for Bart h and Bart q. low titer 1:64 IgG only. Blood smear showed the mystery bug. A few years ago I tested negative for bart at Igenex.
