Hello, I am new and freaked out... saw a tick last week and pulled it off...went to the cabinet and popped a doxycycline immediately went to doc next morning and got a prescription... thought I was fine till today I saw a Bullseye under both armpits!!! How can this be if I am on the Doxy??? Am I being re bitten.... my Doctor is a clown.. typical Family poo poo it away guy... what do I do I am in a state of panic?? Am at least ok if I am currently on the doxy... is the bullseye just a symptom the antibiotic doesn't affect or does this mean the drug is ineffective???

The new book "The Lyme Disease Solution" by Singleton - see Amazon - might be in some of your local book stores. You might call to see. He's not too far from you - he's in Baltimore.

===================

* Can you take a digital photo in good light - both areas ? If you, can you get a friend to do so?

* It's Friday evening, but does your doctor take phone calls ?

See on Amazon: "Healing Lyme" by Buhner. He also has a web site: http://planetthrive.com Some LLMDs incorporate his research.

Good luck.

Really, this may feel like a freak out moment, but it's just a curve ball. It's something to note and there are ways to move on with success. You'll soon find out what those ways may be.

Be sure to see the NEWBIE LINKS at the top of the medical forum.
http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=029917

ILADS Treatment guidelines and other articles can be found at www.ilads.org

========

Giving this more thought - can you call someone in your local support group NOW ?

www.lymenet.org/SupportGroups/UnitedStates/Maryland/

****
When you do find a doctor whom you trust, it is vital that you also get assessed / tested for co-infections. VITAL.
****

You also need something to address the cyst form of lyme. Doxy (or any single abx - antibiotic) is not enough.

Flagyl is typical - Again, you can see the ILADS guidelines at www.ilads.org and in the SIngleton book in my first reply.

*****

Good luck - and take care.

Edited to add link to NEWBIE LINKS info.

YOu have to take at least 400 mg of doxy/day for >= 2 months,

generally with drugs to target the bacterium in its intracellular

locations and in its spore form to have a good chance of

putting it down. Post in seeking a doctor to find

one who follows the ILADS protocols.

Best of luck,

Adam

Ledum 1M - homeopathic

you might also ask your nutrition store if they carry this homeopathic. Since this is early on, it might be of some assistance to your immune system.

It's a one time dose, generally. this current link may be of help:

Ledum

You can search it out on other sites, as well.

The bullseye will quite often show up 3-10 days after a bite, whether you're on antibiotics or not.

Lots of info:
www.wildcondor.com/lymelinks.html

Take a picture of it!!! Take one with your face in the pic, one closeup, and one with a newspaper date next to the rash.

You may need the proof later for insurance purposes... or to prove to another dr that you indeed had the bullseye.

A picture can be worth a thousand words.

Welcome!! [Smile]

TuTu has a very good point. The rash may have appeared even without the doxy.

Great suggestion from her about identification of yourself and the date.

------------------------------------------------

I edited my posts above to delete my over-reaction after I found some notes I made when this came up for me a while back.

One of the leaders of a state lyme support group told me that she had heard of

"several people who - when beginning doxycycline - had the bulls-eye - or even several bulls-eye pop up -- even at sites other than the bite and even when they had not had a recent bite."

She said they continued treatment and the rashes eventually faded in a matter of a week or ten days. Remedies to minimize the herx reactions helped.

(In my case, the rash was unbearable and I could not continue. Most bulls-eye rashes do not burn or itch, I'm told.)

All the confusion aside, you are very lucky that you are addressing this early on.

Wow just got back in from going to the urgent care facility... Dr. there said it is odd to have similar sized rashes..peeling...under each armpit and no bullseye around where i actually removed a tick. She made several key points... Doxy is very irritating to the skin and it might be making me sensitive my deodorant, EM's don't peel like sunburn... EM's spread like a ripple effect ..they dont show up one day 7 inches in Diameter.. I am repeating what she said... the key for me is that the place where I removed the tick had no bullseye... THe fungal rash makes alot of sense since the armpit is a sweat gland area that purges antibiotics 10 fold from the body...regardless i am keeping a close eye and putting my Dog up for adoption!

Cooper,

I'm glad you went to the doctor.

If the rash under your arms was not a bulls-eye as you previously thought and it is peeling skin, well, then, the doctor may have made a good observation, especially since it's under both arms and you have been using anti-persp.

However, I'm not sure about all her statements.

An EM can show up all at once and they do not always have a ripple effect.

While a bulls-eye rash is always lyme, a lyme rash is not always a bulls-eye.

And a lyme EM rash does not always appear at the bite site.

Still, it is calming information in this case.

I hope you will still take the photos - even if you are documenting how a specific deodorant has reacted.

And, I hope you will seek out additional sources from the links above - as you continue your treatment. Since you pulled off an attached tick, you would still need to be evaluated for co-infections and possibly still get a lyme test.

Please read more about this to be sure all your bases are covered as this could be a very slim window of time to do everything correctly.

If you did contract lyme, you have a very good chance, so please take excellent care of yourself.

=========

Cooper,

If you post again, please make short paragraphs.

Most of us here can't read without lots of white space. It's just a big swirl of grey. You'll get more replies with more white space.

thanks.

Please take pictures of all rashes, suspicious or not. This was very beneficial in my case when I presented them to my doc....he said they were classic bullseyes.

Best wishes to you.

Ok so here is an update....

Went to a local Dr. who has seen Lots of Lyme...he is very open to

long term high doses of Anitbiotics...

He switched me to 30 days on Biaxin. Thought it odd to develope rashes not where I removed the tick and

both being perfectly centered under each armpit.

One thing I was told was that Doxycyclines' effacy can be muted but other drugs...

Especially EDTA for chelation therapy... does anyone know about this???

Results so far are the antifungal has dissapated the rash under both arms....

I am optimistic but ill informed and scared but not panicking so much...

I took a Doxy 3 hours after removing the tick... the only concern I have is that the EDTA may have messed with the

absorption of the Doxy. I took the EDTA several time .... 3 maybe over my 10 days on the Doxy so far.

I am wondering if I should finish the doxy..2 more days and keep with the biaxin... also I have ceftin from the ER.. don't want

to self medicate but I have seen the horrors of what nuero Lyme can do!!!
