Both of the LLMD's that I have seen have recommended that when I hit a herx that I go off my abx for a couple days and then resume them when I feel better. They say that just going off for a couple of days will not hurt anything and will not prolong my treatment. I have had herx reactions that behaved exactly that way in the past. I feel bad, go off my abx for a couple of days, feel better, and resume the abx.

However, during the course of my treatment, I have had several times where I thought I was getting better, only to get suddenly worse and feel like I am back at the beginning of my treatment. I start off by treating it like a herx, but when I go off my abx for a couple of days, I never feel any better. Anybody know what this could be? Is this common? How should it be dealt with?

This time I am trying to just push ahead on a lower dose of abx, but I am not seeing any improvement yet. Am I doing the right thing or am I just making myself sicker and wearing my body out?

I did as you say with my first LLMD...

Take abx, herx, go off, then resume. I did this for a over 1.5years and got 0% better

Now I am doing heavy dose IV's along with high dose bicillin shots and am herxing my guts out non-stop but tests are showing improvement, it will just take a little time.

Research and studies are showing that the slow "turtle" treatment aproach is not the way to go...

This disease has to be attacked hard if you want it to go away.

My experience is simiar to Byron's. I didn't want to waste any time, so I just herxed my brains out, almost non stop.

Whenever I stopped feeling horrible, I added something new, until nothing else would make me feel horrible, and I kept feeling good.

I took a couple little breaks for a week or ten days for family occasions, then resumed. It was hell, but worth it.

I was one of the lucky ones. I got better in less than a year (after 20 of lyme) and I am still doing fine.

I think the on and off routine gives us the opportunity to create superbugs.

Byron and Bejoy I appreciate your input on this one. It is so hard to know what to do to get better, but I am very anxious to feel better than I am right now. I know I should probably push harder than I do with the abx, but my cardiac symptoms get scary and I feel like I can't be there for my little boy when I can't get off the couch. I whimp out. So frustrating!

Good luck to all.

Any other thoughts anyone?

I stop my abx for a day or two during a bad herx-I also had bad cardiac symptoms. It took me @ 16 months to notice a difference-I'm doing pretty well most days now. I felt awful the first year, whether I hit it hard, or pulsed. If you go off abx, it shouldn't be for more than 2-3 days, use that time to detox, then go back on.

I have lyme, bart and bas.

My LLMD says they won't get resistant-I was taking zith-which stays in your system for 3 days anyways.
