I just sent out the WB IGG/IGM to IgeneX and I was wondering if I have viruses that are reactivated will this affect the Western Blot test results?
Mike
PS Also do viruses such as EBV cause low numbers on CD-57 test?

Hi Mike, I believe so. It is looking like bands 30 and/or 31 could cross react with viruses. I have had a positive LD test through Igenex and I have several active viral co-infections.
I just looked at my most recent Igenex test (5/08) and band 31 is positive on the IgM and has been since '06. I just noticed also the test reads as follows: "Infection w/ HSV,EBV, HCV and/or syphillis (RPR+) may give false positie results". Hmmmm.....
I would could call them and ask, there phone number is at www.igenex.com) Here is a statement released regarding this:
"IGeneX also now offers a new 30-31kDa Confirmation IgG and IgM test. If results from the initial Western Blot are positive for bands 30 or 31, it is possible that these could be due to cross-reactivity with several different types of viruses. In this confirmatory test, highly specific recombinant antigens are used to validate that the positive result is not due to cross-reaction with viruses"

If ONLY 30 and/or 31 appear, then I would pursue the viral issue and test with their confirmation test. If any other Bb specific band appears, it is likely not related to a virus.

Scott funny you should say that because I have other positive bands that indicate Ld and for a moment reading the test made me wonder if viral or lyme are my main issues...I guess both, still.

If you go to the Igenex site and go to 30/31 confirmation test. Dr. Harris lists the band numbers that if you have any 2 plus 30 and or 31 it points more to lyme, and confirmation test would not be needed.
