I've been on Mepron and Malerone together for

one month. Mepron 4tsp daily and Malerone 2

caps daily. When do most people stop treatment?

Can Babesia be completely treated with drugs?

I would like to know if people treat it and move

on or have to be continually on medications.

That is a really good question and difficult to answer. In some folks, babesia can take a long time -- over 5 months -- to eradicate.

Yes, people do treat it successfully, and appear to eliminate it from their bodies. They do move on!

I treated for 5 months last year with malarone only (one per day), but that was not enough. Your treatment sound fairly strong. Most folks take zith with mepron, but malarone has another component so can take care of the resistance issue.

Wow....Mepron WITH Malerone? I'm no doctor but I'm not sure I've heard of that. I know many LLMD's do one or the other with other meds added, but keep us posted how this goes since I'm not sure many have tried this combo.

Maybe you will be able to find a path to getting rid of it quicker.

I was on Mepron, Zith and Art for 7 months but when going to the new LLMD, he said I still hadn't gotten rid of it, so I'm starting Mepron with Ketek, with IV rocephin and Flagl, coming up, so I imagine some major butt will be kicked. Just hope it's the diseases butt and not mine. Hahahahaha.

I do know that no two people are the same and it depends on the depth of your infection. If you have a qualified LLMD, I'm sure he would be able to answer your question better, since he/she knows your case specificially.

Good luck.

Cathy

I think I treated for well over a year. I still tested reactive after 4 months of Mepron.

Maybe it will take you less time to treat then I did because I took a smaller daily dose of Mepron then you are.

I've been treating babs for 18 months.

I was on the same dose of Mepron as you with Zith for a while and Biaxin for a while (plus other herbs and meds). Currently I'm on 3 Malarone per day and Lariam (with other herbs).

We treated with malarone, low dose for a month, then mepron, 2 teaspoons a day for 6 1/2 months. I couldn't tolerate artemesia because it kept raising my liver enzymes but I was on it for several months.

Despite this treatment I still have babesia. Immediately after going off treatment I had chills, fevers, sweating etc..

We were already onto bart treatment so I've been on one malarone per day for the past 6 months which has kept babs at bay until we get rid of bart.

I recently found out that I have methylation cycle genetic mutations that make parasitic infections more severe. We have started to treat that problem so hopefully I'll be able to get rid of babesia next time.

It can take a long time to clear. You'll know when it comes back!

Wow, thanks you guys for responding. I have not treated babesia before. This is my first time. However, I have treated lyme for the last 4 years but was unable to get better. Just recently diagnosed with babs.

The Malerone has a additional drug, I believe it is proquinil that works with the high dose Mepron. Who knows maybe it will work. So far I'm up to 4tsp of Mepron daily and Malerone 3 tabs. daily along with Zithromax 500mgs.

How do you know when your done? Do you just treat to symptoms? I also have lyme so at times that is confusing.
