I was just switched to Rifampin, but not for bart .... it's because I seem to respond to the intracellulars and they didn't want to use Minocin in the summer.
So, I'm on Mepron, zith, art, enula, plaquenil, and rifampin.
I also treated bart and babs at the same time with malarone, art, lariam, plaquenil, levaquin, and tindamax.

Good morning.
I looked up drug interactions and it seems rifampin lowers the effectiveness of mepron.
Maybe if they were spaced out real well.
Thanks for the help.

At one time I was able to treat babs, bart and lyme at the same time.
The combo I found to work the best was;
Plaq Bactrim Biaxin Mepron IM bicillin shots 3 x week
Feel better

I don't know if I even have Babs but I am getting treatment for it just in case.
I am doing Zithro, Plaquenil, Mepron, Bactrim and next week I start Bicillin shots. Apparently the Zithro should also hit the Bart. It has helped before.
I also wanted to add that since I started all this new abx my anxiety has gone through the roof too.
One of my first symptoms was severe panic and anxiety. My LLMD told me not to be surprised if it starts to come back.
Sure enough, it has. It has become particulary worse since starting the Mepron a few days ago. I wake up with that horrid feeling that something terrible is about to happen. As with you it wears off throughout the day but not completly.
Are you able to exercise? I have come to the point that I can run a bit on my eliptical machine. As soon as I get up I run..not really fast...for about 15 minutes. It must get something going in my brain because it eases the anxiety a little more quickly.
I hope it goes away soon for you. I hate the anxiety.

I am exercising....a lot!
My husband in his infinite wisdom ( ) took down our fence for the dogs.
Since I can't seperate them without the fence I am walking dogs all day long.
I went and bought a kennel today (10 ft by 10ft).
I will continue to walk the dogs, but will welcome a rest from doing this all day long.
This way more than one can be out at a time.
The joys of a husband who just doesn't get it.
Lucky me.
I used to take Bactrim initially with Malarone.
I will call LLMD's office on Monday and see if I can add this back in my mix.
I guess I should order a straight jacket too (or a new improved husband).
Thanks for your responses.
I hate this feeling!
Hugs,
Geneal

DUH (me)!!!!! I tried posting this right after your first post & I guess it never went.
When I didn't see it here, I went hunting around for it. I found it in another tab on my browser with an error message "problem loading page".
Excuse me if anything doesn't make sense with what was posted in between. I hadn't seen it all yet, when I compsed this reply.
I'm so sorry that you're feeling so awful.
My Psych knowledgeable LLMD just suggested Klonopin or Valium for dealing with the Bart-related anxiety.
I stated my objections to taking any med which might be addictive or cause withdrawal symptoms.
I was told it might be a good "short-term" solution, since getting Txd properly for the Bart should resolve those issues, it could be discontinued after Bart was no longer in the picture.
I, personally, would rather go after the Bart. I have been thinking about asking her if it could just be taken at times when the anxiety is overbearing & interfering with necessary sleep.
I don't want to add in anything that needs to be taken daily, can have interactions or side effects, as maintaining ABX and supplements are a big enough pain in the butt for me.
I know that "Holy Basil" (aka-Tulsi) works for depression. I wonder if it could help with anxiety, as well. ???
I'd really be interested to find out about effective combo Txs, also. Thanks for starting this topic.
Ali
I just realized something.... My other LLMD had told me that Biaxin should have some effect on the Bart too.
I HATE THESE FREAKING CO-INFECTIONS!!!!!!!

Thanks AliG.
I've undercut that dirty rat of a husband.
I went and paid for a kennel (10 x 10ft) to be delivered next week.
I'm sure he'll have a stroke, but all I do is dogs, dogs, and dogs.
From 5:45 am till 9:00pm. I just got finished training one of them who started a fight last week.
Very hard to do with being afraid of everything all of a sudden.
I said to myself "You are a marine drill seargent. Now go and get him."
Maybe I should just hold off his training till the evening when my anxiety isn't sooooo bad.
Oh my gosh! Duh! Had to write it down to figure that one out.
Sometimes I make myself laugh.
I think training was enpowering. Have 5 more weeks of sessions to go.
I believe that this will also help in the rest of my life.
The man asked me yesterday how long I've had this dog.
Hmmmmm. Since July of 2006.
His response: "And you've never trained him?!!"
My response: "I became very ill about 3 weeks after my husband brought this dog home.
I was unable to walk, speak, remember, etc."
"I have Lyme disease".
He was very compassionate about my struggle.
I think he was secretly cheering me on as my 102lb body was in charge of an 84lb dog body.
I won that round.
You guys are the best of the best of the best.
I don't think I can ever say that enough.

Geneal,
If you think you have dysautonomia/POTS issues too, you can try a beta blocker like Pindolol. It reduces anxiety.....many use it for that. (but I think even people without dysautonomia use it for anxiety. like, people with fear of public speaking, etc).
And, of course, some use it for high blood pressure.
Interestingly, my blood pressure is on the low end, but it hasn't affected me adversely. It is definitely something you should check with a doctor about though.
As a bonus, it dropped my high pulse and gave me a little bit of energy.
It's nice, because it's not like the antidepressants are with lots of side effects.
Best of luck to you!

I can't do levaquin.
Tried it once with horriffic side effects including tendon pain within 24 hours.
I've done malarone 6 x a day, but as I weigh 102lbs, it causes me to develop sores in my mouth.
I did take some extra vitamin C today...not sure if it was that which helped,
Or just putting my horrible anxiety issues out there.
I do have POTs and NMH for which I take florinef.
I think I need a phone consult with my LLMD asap.
Darn. Wish I would of thought of that earlier today.
Thanks to all for your advice and recommendations.
I am printing this out to talk to my LLMD about.
Hugs,
Geneal

Hey Geneal,
Sorry you're having such a rough time! Have you looked into HH capsules? I know that in Dr. Schallers new book on Bartonella he talks alot about them. They're supposedly better than any abx in eradicating it.
Or maybe you could take zith with the Mepron? I deal with the anxiety too - I can't stand that feeling!!
BTW - you've got me beat on the dogs - I've got five and I thought that was a lot! Sheesh! And kids too?! Bless your soul you are one tough cookie!
Hang in there and talk to the good doc on Monday - he'll fix you up I'm sure.

Sorry to hear about your symptoms. We have dealt
with the anxiety and know how horrible it is.
You must be a very strong person to be able to
walk 7 dogs all day while feeling like this.
Our 2 are enough for me.
We have someone here who just started treatment
for bart and babs along with lyme.
She is on amox, zith and mepron. Starting to
see improvement.
Wishing you wellness.

GENEAL!!!!!!!
You had problems with Levaquin?!
Are you taking any Magnesium? That may help with the anxiety. Dr.B recommended Slo-Mag(?), you can get it at Walmart. Epsom salt baths are good for Magnesium too, I believe.
I think it's worth a shot since you can't get your LLMD.
I just remembered! She also had recommended Artemisinin for my Babs & said that it might actually help with the anxiety.
You've brought back memories of my struggles, trying to raise my monster puppy. We too just got her right around my bites in 2006.
What a nightmare that's been. I can remember finally "losing it", when she'd gotten just too big & ornery, and going full-out after her with a do or die adrenaline rush.
I chased her through the house, until she thought she outsmarted me by getting around the other side of a 4 ft square marble coffee table. I actually growled at her as I lunged across the table and pinned her to the floor.
It took my full body weight and every ounce of strength I could muster to keep her down, and keep her from biting my face. (She's the only dog I've ever seen that can turn her head around a full 180 degrees )
She finally quit struggling, "cried Uncle" & gave me a kiss. I now have earned her respect & she's like a different dog with me.
She'll still occasionally "test her limits", but she now acknowledges that I am "the alpha female" and has become much more secure with my ability to run this "pack".
I think it also helped that I stepped in, a couple of times when she got tangled up with relentless, aggressive dogs in the dog-park and came to her defense. Believe it or not, I took on a Pit-bull & won.
Then again, I don't think my dog is far enough removed from wolf for a trainer to have been really effective.
Now that she's grown & has more confidence, she's "got my back" too. Which is nice It took over a year to fully develop a bond with her. I've never, ever had that happen with a dog before.
I was always the one that the psycho-dogs that scared everyone else loved. It's been a long, strange road with her indeed.
Seven dogs AND multiple kids!!! I bow to the master I could NEVER handle all that with these freaking TBDs!!!!
You can tell that ex-marine of your 5'4, 116 lb Lymie friend said, "Don't MAKE me come down there!". (wink) What I make lack in size, I make up for in will & determination. LOL
hugs & prayers, Ali
