I'm not sure why the Primary Care needs to be involved. I talked to her about it and she didn't quite understand...and then I realized, I didn't really either.
Is it because the LLMDs won't/don't want to write that many rxs for lots of antibiotics in fear of losing their license?
Can someone enlighten me with this?

I don't know. I don't have a PCP, my LLMD is basically my GP.
I always was under the impression that people who live far away from their LLMD need a PCP close to home---to monitor their treatment, test liver function and other important things.

Some insurances may not cover meds unless written by a doctor who is also with that insurance company.
So do; some don't.
So, if the PCP orders, there is usually less hassle for the patient.
However, you can check with your insurance company about that.

Also, most LLMDs see out of state patients. The pharmacies in your state may not honor the script of an out of state doctor.
You can still fill it near your doctors office, if out of state, but it would likely be out of pocket.
If you call your insurance company to ask questions, be vague . . . just say that you are going on vacation and want to be clear in case your family needs medical treatment.

And, some LLMDs require a patient to have a PCP on board to monitor tests, as mentioned above and handle questions.

My daughter's LLMD is out of state and not on our insurance. Her PCP orders blood tests and sends them to the LLMD so they are covered by insurance.
Other than that, the PCP is not involved at all. I'm not sure why I would need her unless it was for a broken bone or something like that. I would call the LLMD about symptoms of illness before I would call the PCP just in case it was Lyme related or to find out if the antibiotics would affect it.
I haven't tried using his orders for the blood tests. I haven't had any trouble getting the LLMD's prescriptions filled locally.
