Hi [Smile]

I am taking 500 MG TWICE per Day of Azithromycin/Zithromax for Lyme (along with IV Rocephin and Tindamax).

If taking Zith, what is your dosing schedule?

Since taking this, my nerve pain is just crazy as is my heat sensitivity, can anyone relate?

Also, anyone treating Bart with Zith?

Thanks, MBB3

I'm taking Zith ... it was 250 twice daily, but I couldn't handle it .... so now I'm taking 500 once per day three days per week. I've been on lots of meds for 18 months and feel 90% when not herxing, but the zith is still hitting me hard.

When I was treating Bart, I never went higher than 750mg daily but the majority of the time it was 250mg 2X a day.

Your dose seems a little high but if you can handle it, kill, kill, kill!

Love that Clarissa, kill, kill, kill..lol

I take Zithro twice a day at 250mg.

I couldn't do the 500mg in one shot. It killed my stomach.

I usually feel my best while on zithromax. This time since I am taking alot of other things..not so good.

Hi All,

If you are taking Zithromax 500 mg 1x a day, is this considered treatment for coinfections if you have any?

My Dr. said that doxy will kill most coinfections, but I am not on that anymore.

My coinfection tests were all negative, and I'm not sure if my Dr. is treating me for just lyme alone? I only have muscular/skeletal symptoms fatigue and heart thuds.

How do you tell if you have coinfections without any symptoms?

[Eek!]

Without the symptoms or the positive blood tests, it is hard to know if you have them.

I always considered it to be, if your Lyme doesn't respond to treatment (for example, like after a year), that is when you assume you have them....or at least question if you do.

It is hard though, I know. I never suspected babesia or bartonella, but after struggling for many years, they came up in my bloodwork as being "prior infection."

At that point, you might as well treat them, because what do you have to loose? That is how I see it.

Keep retesting for those coinfections in the future though. They may come out in bloodwork once you have treated for them a little? I think there is a line of thought involving that.

500mg twice per day? WOW! I have only heard of it at 500mg once per day. The half life is soooooooo long it is a very strong drug. http://tinyurl.com/5af5of

I lasted 5 days on Zith and had to stop, the herx was absolutely the worst I have ever experienced, a much lower dose than you are on.

The macrolides treat Bart very well, zith is considered first line treatment for bart by some LLMd's - some info here; www.canlyme.com/fiveeasypieces.html

Hmmm...so I am taking a HUGE dose! I clearly looked at my LLMD's printed protocol and 500 MG twice per day on fifth week of therapy, along with Flagyl or Tindamax which is what I am now taking. Flagyl also caused increase burning, reason I switched to Tindamax...

I will say I missed a dose last week and felt WAY better...nerve pain burning was less which is what I am trying to defeat more than anything!

Also, while on the 1000 MG zith, IF I spend more than about 10 minutes in direct sunlight (95 degrees in Florida), whole body feels likes it on FIRE, stinging sensations, difficulty taking deep breath!

Only have 4 more days and I can stop the Zith...really not that bad if I stay indoors at 74 degreees! And since I've had burning nerve pain for 20 months, I have a tolerance.

Any others thoughts? MBB3

No, 500 mg of Zithromax ONCE a day. See above [Big Grin]

I just take 1 abx a day, and a ton of probiotics, yeast killer (just ordered a new one: Fungal Defense, and Virastop to break the shield of the lyme bacteria. Maybe a vitamin here and there. Can't handle any more pills.

Just waiting for the day when there are NO MORE MEDS to take. This pill popping is killing me!

I originally took 250mg of Zith 2x a day along with the same dosage of Flagyl. I did this for 1 month. Now I take only 250mg once a day of
Zith and am currently off the Flagyl. In another month I will take Biaxin, but don't yet know what the dosage of that will be.

Note: Zith is a pretty toxic drug so at that level you're taking, make sure you're doing lots of detoxing!!

And then continue to kill, kill, kill! [Big Grin]

Help! Toxic to zith??? I've tried taking zith several times, but by the third day I'm cyring with malaise and burning skin. And that was on 1/4 of a 250 mg pill.

This week I tried 1/8 pill. Today would be my third day, but last night I had a rough night with anxiety, this morning with burning skin and depression.

Any advice on what I should do? Should I disregard it altogether. Doxycyline and Ceftin were good drugs for me, but I plateaued. I tried Flagyl 1/4 pill for 3 days, and was just crying all day.

What's a gal to do?

Thanks,
CherylSue
