Hi everyone,

A question for everyone. I'm hoping you can help me sort this out. Was diagnosed with lyme disease 4 years ago. I became acutely ill and was diagnosed within a month or so. Looking back I may have had some minor symptoms for 6 months before that however, they were mild! The onset was so severe. Two weeks into onset could hardly walk with alot of neurological symptoms. I was treated with IV abx. and then followed with oral abx. I got 90% better within 14 months and then relapsed, but with slightly different symptoms. Have been on continuous abx for 4 years. Able to function at about 40-50%. Recently, I was diagnosed with babesia duncani. Must of had it all along maybe thats why I haven't made real progress.

I have several questions and am looking for quidance.

I am now on 3tsp of Mepron daily and 500mgs of Zithromax. Just started artemesia 3 times daily. How long does it take to see much improvement with this treatment? I have been treating for one month. I don't notice much of a difference. Some days worse and some better.

What are your thoughts on the fact that I never fully recovered with just the lyme treatment. Could the babesia duncani be the reason?

Once I treat this will I have a better chance of regaining my health?

Has anyone else had this? I would like to know how they improved and how long it took. I understand babesia duncani can be more difficult.

My doctor is recommending high doses of Mepron and artemesia has anyone had any success with that type of aggressive treatment?

Any other suggestions, I'm open.

Thanks again!

I also have babesia duncani. I am taking 1 tsp of Mepron 2x/day, 500 mg zithromax 1x/day and 100 mg artimisinin 3x/day.

I take the Mepron for three weeks and take a break from it on the fourth week. Zithromax and atimisinin are continued for all four weeks.

How many mg's of atimisinin are you taking?

Do you take Mepron all four weeks of a month or just three?

I have been treating babs for three months so far. I felt better after the second month of treatment.

I would think that you would have a great chance of regaining your health after the babs is gone. I believe untreated coinfections are a major reason why lyme treatments fail.

Babesia, in particular, because it makes lyme stronger. Get rid of the babesia and you should be better able to get rid of the lyme.

Do you know how long your doctor plans on treating you for babesia duncani?

More than one LLMD is now having their patients do 4 teaspoons of Mepron daily.

Could you possibly have untreated bartonella?

Are many people treating with high dose Mepron?
I want to know what kind of effects and success people are having with this kind of treatment.

As far as bart. goes I have always tested negative. Fry labs stated there was rare bart. or mycoplasma. It seems my symptoms for bart are not that strong. Do you have a idea how to differentiate between lyme and bart?

Hi Katrina,

Like Lymer, I am 3 weeks on, one week off with Mepron, 1 tsp 2xdaily, also 500 mg Zith and 400 mg. Artemisinin (200 mg 2xdaily). I have babs ducani also.

I am on my 3rd month of babs tx. I would have to say, any progress is painfully slow. My symptoms are mostly neurological, along with weird heart beat stuff. I would say my extra heart beats are ever so slowly improving. The neuro stuff is even slower. I sometimes get a few hours of improvement, then to feel like I'm back at square one again.

My LLMD is telling me that slowly those few hours of improvement should start outweighing the bad; hope she's right. I did ask about higher dosing of Mepron. I am a pretty small person, she thought the 2 tsp a day was enough for me.

I have read on this board that many treat ducani for a year or more...I have a hard time knowing what symptoms are from Lyme and what are from babs (mind you, I'm + for bart and ehrlichia too). My progress with all of this (started tx March 2008) is WAY slower than I'd like, ugh...wishing you improved health. TS

You can still have bart and have a negative Fry Lab smear for it.

It wasn't until I added septra to my mepron, biaxin and art mix that I noticed a difference and finally tested negative for babs.
