Hi,

I am interested in how long it has taken folks
to get back to normal (relative, of course)
after gall bladder surgery.

It has been a week for me so far. The surgery went well. But I still really need to rest afternoons and evenings and still need the pain medication. (found out the hard way) I thought I'd be doing better by now.

Thanks,
kpa

It took me a few weeks to get back to "normal" ( the relative normal for Lymies)... It wasn't as quick as I hoped.

Hang in there.

I had complications, so what I say doesn't really count!! [Razz]

But I'd say without complications, 2-3 wks should have you feeling pretty good!

I didn't feel any where near normal for 14 days. I also needed the pain meds for 14 days.

After that it was pretty smooth sailing.

I had a REALLY hard time after I lost my gallblatter. I was in really good shape before the surgery and I decided to try and walk a few blocks 3 days after. BAD idea.

Not only that but we later came to realize that my babs became active after my surgery. I quit my job and did nothing except sleep and rest and try to exercise for 2 months. In terms of the scaring and pain-it's gonna take a good month.

I remember thinking I am young (22) why the heck am I still on pain meds. My surgeon said I should be fine, no pain meds necessary, but I was in tears! You'll recover though and be fine! My scars aren't even noticable. I can wear a bikini and everything!

Thanks guys.

Helps me feel not so wimpy or guilty.

So I will read and watch TV without worrying
what else I should be doing. I haven't been
there for a while, but could be worse!

for those who answered, did you have the laproscopic surgery, or the older type of surgery?

I am also scheduled to have my gall bladder out, on Tuesday, 6 weeks after my gall bladder attack. 6 weeks of eating a no fat diet, resulting in a total weight loss (so far) of 29 lbs.

I wish I could just relax and get better after the surgery, but I have 2 small kids at home, who I am sure will not be willing or able to give me more than 2 consecutive minutes of rest.

I was dx'd with bart and myco at the beginning of summer, but have not been able to be on abx for the past 6 weeks, due to my very limiited diet.

Thanks for any guidance.

Yep!

Wow, you drop weight like I do when I can't eat fats. I've lost 25 lbs in the past few months due to a stone in my bile duct.

{yes, that can happen AFTER GB surgery}
