Yo Mike, after looking at MacDonald's work does your answer still hold? I've looked at some of this work...but I thought he said something about the blebs -- or sections of spirochetes -- that led me to believe I still don't what the hell is going on with these terrible life forms!

I most certainly agree with Alan McDonald. The Blebs aren't technically bacteria themselves, but rather forms, -- more like "decoys" that the bacterium produce as a survival defense mechanism to help it evade the immune system.
I agree with his theories. Study everything you can about Syphilis, it's so similar that it's unreal. There may be other forms
