Anyone care to share their experiences on Levaquin? I hear good and bad about it. I am taking 500mg per day with my Flagyl 750mg per day.

Also, I was told to avoid long exposures in the sun. I am traveling to FLA in 4 weeks and plan on beaching it a few days. I always wear strong sunblock under an umbrella so what are your thoughts about that?

Are tanning beds just as bad even with short exposures (like 10 minutes). I use the beds to help with my Vit D deficiency and it also helps with my extremely achy body.

I took Levaquin + Flagyl together for 3 weeks and found it very helpful, but also knocked me on my a%^.. I continued on a Levaquin+mino combo for 3 months more and just had to quit--suicidal depression and knee pain = no more Levaquin.
Some people do just fine on it, others don't. Hopefully you will be one of the ones who do.

Levaquin was also a hard drug for me, but I made a lot of progress on it.

I didn't have trouble with sun exposure. If you do a tanning bed, I'd test it out slowly, at much less time than you normally do. I think you'll be okay covered with sunblock under an umbrella.

I had worse sun sensitivity with Rifampin! Levaquin is nothing like Doxy as far as sun sensitivity, but I'm sure it's different with each person, so go slowly.

Cool and thanks to both of you......I am going to test the waters in a few days with the tanning bed. Maybe instead of my full 20 minutes I will go 10 and see what happens [Embarrassed]

So far I felt very "off" today from the Levaquin. Basically I laid on the couch most of the day and then decided to watch Under Our Skin for the 5th time - LOL.

This disease sucks [toilet]

aLOHA GERT-

i've been on levaquin for 2 months now along with LA bicillin injections....

I was on 500mg now I 'm on 750mg...I take it with food now too...

in the beginning i felt sleeply and groggy from it...also nauseated...(I was taking it on an empty stomach, eventually threw up, no more empty stomach....)

I haven't had any tendon issues...

a really bad herx hit me about 4-5 weeks in....so achey --headaches--moody--anger--irrt-emotional--ANXIETY ect...

my soles of feet hurt real bad now every morning...never had this before levaquin...

muscle aches and joint pain are a killler but passes....

I also developed my first BART STREAK on my stomach....it's still there , but faded a bit..

i have NO problem with sun exposure and I live in HAWAII!!!- but I'd take it easy---

I don't tan, but I'll be in the sun swimming and walking the beach....

if you have questions along the way, feel free to ask...

good luck!

hugs ~
Fawne

Gert,

I seriously hope you're joking about the tanning beds. The biggest problem with the sun I've found (and I'm 24) is that I go out (not to get tan) and I do wear sun block every day, but you can't tell that you're getting color until hours later often.

You may think you got a little color and then 3 hours later your freakin BURNT. As well you can get 3rd degree burns without even knowning it. NO SUN for now.

Good LUCK with levaquin and flaygl. I tried to get my LLMD to put me on that but I couldn't even handle it. I was not prepared for how much pain there would be. I also have only been on flaygl once and I lasted two weeks before my doctor pulled me off. You're brave to go on both at the same time.

The doxy helped so much with the levaquin pain, but unforchunetly, I threw up every night on my secondly daily dose of it-so after 3 weeks. It was the first time in months I really had a herx, so I wanted to push myself, but unforchunetly I did myself in and 2 months later I am still trying to recover.

Definately keep your doctor informed and be care on that stuff. Start off slowly. It's probably gonna knock you on ur a$$.

Again, thank you all for your inputs.....It just seems everyone has a different reaction to Levaquin.

Actually, I love the Flagyl.....been on it since June. It made a HUGE difference in my life with little to no side effects.

Now adding the Levaquin may be a totally different story [bonk]

Each time I restart I feel that i can handle that.

I am back on LEVAQUIN and flagyl right now!

Mu tremors , numbness and my vibration stoped in 2 days.As you all know I showed on muscle testing as I have mucoplasma and LYME as active.( bart is still there but not blocking my system ).

Doc thinks I may have BART according to my current symptoms. I was almost symptom free from June-July but got hit hard at the end of July.

Now I am on Flagyl and Levaquin and that Levaquin is kicking my A$$.

I hurt from head to toe, can barely move my legs as they feel like they are full of lead and they ache and twitch.

Is this normal? I am about ready to fly the white flag but hubby said to tough it out for at least a full week.

Gert-

You are definately a brave one. I have bart/babs/erchil..I was doing fine, until my doc put me on levaquin in June. I stayed on it for 2 weeks despite HORRIBLE pain, night sweats, temperature irregulation, and chronic fatigue. I didn't do a lot of research before I started levaquin. I knew people said it was rough, but I wasn't aware of the pain.

I called my doctor but we had missed connections until the 3rd week in June. This was my first BIG herx, so I told her I wanted to go on Flaygl but she said we should start with doxy to help with the pain and then see how I do in the next two weeks and if I am ok then we could add in the flagyl.

Although the doxy helped with the pain, it did not help with the other symptoms. They only continued to put me under.

I stopped the Levaquin a few days after the 4th of July. I couldn't do it anymore. My blood work dropped (CD57)-

I would say it's tough-it's good you're herxing-just watch it bc I went into a relapse and now a month later I am facing going onto disabiltiy. If your body detoxes well you should be fine. I seem like I can handle the meds and then 3 weeks into it when the damage is done my body makes me pay for the next several months.

Everyone is different but definately keep your doctor informed. And know that what you're doing is SO tough, so GOOOO you!!!!

Hi Smiles ~ well, today is not much different. I can barely walk and sit. I have the same exact pain I had 4-5 years ago when I was house/bed bound and crawled from room to room.

Today is only the 5th day I will be on it and not sure I can take much more. I've been soaking in a hot Epsom Salt bath several times a day and that seems to help.

Right now the pain is pretty severe in my left lower back/hip area causing spasms when I try to move, both my legs (and the red bumps on my legs are starting to itch, before they were sore), and also my feet are getting very sharp shooting pains again.

Been a long time since I felt it that bad in my feet. I used to be a long distance runner and this is what caused me to stop.

Again, thank you all for caring to post back on the Levaquin.

I lasted 37 days on Levaquin. I was mostly bed ridden and pain on bottom on bottom of my feet and my knee.

I put on Magnessia Oil on my foot and knee to help replace what I was losing and it helped with the pain.

I had to stop because It was affecting my breathing. I wasn't able to breath and talk and I was gasping for air.

My Dr. thought it was because of the Babesia so he started me on Mephron and Zithro

Gert,

It's funny how when you start a new med and you thought you felt sick before-it now seems so much worse. Pain and symptoms that you thought were gone for good creep back. It's so odd

Definately keep your doctor in the loop. See if you can pulse it. You do need to listen to your body, but you also have to see this a sign that you are KILLING the lyme.

I know how tough it is! So it's time for you to talk to your doctor about how far you want to push yourself. Remember the key is to key balence and if since you are pushing yourself REST-do NOTHING-just take the experience for what it is and know that you're finally killing those suckers!

I am not a doctor so please consult yours. These are just from my person experience.

Welp, I lasted 7 days on Levaquin.....Had to go off. BAD BAD drug for me. I am now on Biaxin XL and feel a bit better. At least my extremely sore legs, arms and shoulders have eased up a bit.

Today is day 2 on Biaxin XL so I hope for the best.
