As many with Lyme and co-infections, I have hypothyroidism. When my thryoid slips I suffer from a lot of water retention leading to shortness of breath. The retention reaches a point where it is hard to walk because my feet hurt, my left arm will hurt, and my knees hurt. When I take a diuretic I will lose 5 lbs. of water with one pill, relieving the pain. As soon as the thyroid is adjusted these symptoms go away.
I know these symptoms are not typical of hypothyroidism and I don't really hear about water retention with lyme.
Anyone else go through this? What is the deal?

This is thoroughly discussed in the book below. Eight pages dedicated to just thyroid - and many more to the endocrine system - in regards to lyme.
Some wonderful adrenal support for me (and mentioned in the book) is ashwagandha,or Siberian Ginseng, or Cordyceps and some find Rhodiola to be very good (but it can be a bit stimulating - back off if that happens).
If the adrenals are better nourished and supported, they thyroid is much better off. He also says that, for some patients, a very low dose of Cortef is needed.
Again, he does an excellent job of explain the process and offers a plan of action.

mine keeps shifting too. dosage works for awhile then wham off again. both up & down for last 3 years.
A Veteran Affairs doc...( a new one) mentioned that the generic Levothoroxine may not be consistant enough for me.
Gonna switch to brand name & give that a try. pick up tommorrow.
Yes, I too swell & pain in feet kill me (more than usual) when my thyroid goes "off kilter"

Try taking an iodine supplement...Low level, couple of capsules of sea kelp per day.
