I am at about 90% in my recovery and my LLMD wants me to try 50 days of Diflucan to clear any remaining symptoms. I am on a maintenance dosage of Zithromax (250mg MWF).

I have been reading about long QT and serious arrthymmia problems associated with Zith and Diflucan. I would think the combo would be extra risky.

I have had episodes of near fainting, fast/irregular rhythms associated with my lyme (PSVT, PVCS, PACS and god knows what else) but no diagnosis of long QT. Still possible I would think though. Even after my many ECGS that do not show it.

Is there increased risk with the combo of Zith and Diflucan or only with Diflucan and Clairthromycin?

Just took my first Diflucan pill today (200mg) and feel nothing but worried about exercising, excitement etc....

Thanks!

My doctor has advised me not to take Diflucan and Zithromax together. The liver uses the same enzyme to break down both medications and there is a moderate interaction between them.

Having said that, another doctor I used to see didn't think the interaction was anything to be concerned about.

I take Diflucan 1-2 times per week and on those days I don't take Zithromax.

Here is an excerpt from http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/zithromaxsusp_ad.htm:

Drug interaction studies were performed with azithromycin and other drugs likely to be co-administered.

When used in therapeutic doses, azithromycin had a modest effect on the pharmacokinetics of atorvastatin, carbamazepine, cetirizine,

didanosine, efavirenz, fluconazole , indinavir, midazolam, rifabutin, sildenafil, theophylline (intravenous and oral), triazolam,

trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole or zidovudine. Co-administration with efavirenz, or fluconazole had a modest effect on the pharmacokinetics of azithromycin.

No dosage adjustment of either drug is recommended when azithromycin is coadministered with any of the above agents.

So the zithro manufacturer doesn't think the moderate interaction with diflucan is anything to be concerned about. My doctor is being conservative when recommending the two meds shouldn't be taken on the same day.

I too am having concerns taking diflucan for the next 30 days. I just finished two full years of treatment and my Lyme Nurse Practioner wants me to take 30 days of diflucan alone.

My GI Dr. is opposed to taking it as he thinks it's too much and too powerful.

I'm looking for answers on this one as well.

The longest I ever took diflucan was eight days and really never noticed anything.
