I am going to keep using the herbs etc. it seems to be helping she finally found something natural to help with my back pain. The lyme and everything linked to it coinfections etc are improving well. Plus hearing you guys about herxing that sounds horrible. I am detoxing but nothing like what those on antibiotics have experienced plus she can get rid of the lyme totally so I don't have to worry about it coming back on me unless I am bit by a tick again.

candlequeen ,

as long as she is thoroughly educated about lyme and all TBD and all their cycles and forms and also has thoroughly read all the ILADS literature and the ILADS Treatment guidelines

and . . . books by Singleton, Buhner and Zhang.

I saw an otherwise excellent naturopathic physician for the first five years after lyme and 2 other TBD dx - there is no LLMD in my state.

I thought this ND knew all about lyme. He said he did. And, it made sense that we needed to get my body stronger. But the stuff he used for the infection was not specific for lyme and the babesia and ehrlichia just went ignored.

I am a huge admirer of plant-based medicine, especially since my liver can't process out many drugs.

However: Your doctor MUST be very aware of lyme and TBD and everything about them. This cannot be treated like ANYTHING ELSE.

Even if you don't use allopathic medicine you need to know what they use and why and still consider all the things the LLMDs consider.

Best of luck to you.

Here are some reference materials to consider in addition to reading over the ILADS guidelines and watching every minute of the DVDs of their seminars.

This book, by an ILADS member LLMD, has great information about pharmaceutical and complementary treatments:

LYME DISEASE ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES

poster's note: while few get well without attention to nutrition and supporting the liver and adrenals with specific supplements, anyone considering complementary approaches should be sure to have first read the abx protocol for a better grasp of the task at hand.

Basic, supportive herbs to "get the body stronger" are NEVER enough to get over lyme or coinfections. Very specific attention must be paid to the nature, life-span and forms of each tick-borne disease (TBD).

Each infection is treated differently and it is no minor undertaking. It is best to seek guidance with skilled professionals who are truly lyme and TBD literate. They will know, specifically, how to proceed.

Some LL NDs are ILADS members. Some also incorporate abx treatment along with herbs/vitamins/minerals.

Just the past year, I have found a very good LL ND. If your ND wants to expand her professional network, there are several around the country.

Let me know if you want the contact info. for the few I know.

Please be careful. Just 3 days ago you posted "Does anyone know of a Lyme doc in southeastern PA. I am not sure if the holistic way is working. I am giving it another month and if i don't improve I am going elsewhere."

Now, today you seem very sure that you are getting better. What has changed? What other tests have you had in working up your back pain? I've had terrible back pain in the past, and am very familiar with diagnosis and treatment. From my experience, lyme disease is most commonly associated with a migrating polyarthritis. Constant, unrelenting back pain without other joint involvement would be atypical for lyme disease. Perhaps the herbal treatments she is giving you simply have pain relieving or antiinflamatory properties.

And, like the others have posted, if he/she has claimed that she can 100% cure lyme disease, I'd procede cautiously. I'm sure you're paying a lot for these herbal treatments and I personally have some suspicion. Don't take this as the bible, but be careful.

....stop worrying about the dreaded 'herx'. it's no reason to avoid abx.

I'm just posting this so others won't avoid early treatment.

Yes, Charlie has a good point. Many of the LL NDs are working together with the LLMDs and many of the NDs believe abx are vital to the treatment success.

I am a treatment failure because I had no LLMD and a ND who was not LL.

When you read the Buhner book, you will see that he states there are some TBDs that require abx.

Herbs can be fantastic for helping to keep the liver safe and to help increase circulation and ease pain, etc.

But they are not always enough alone, just as abx are not enough alone either. Probiotics is just example of how this works together.

While allicin can stand alone in many cases, even that can be combined with abx for every better effect sometimes. The key is having a doctor who has seen hundreds of patients.

Experience is so important - having a doctor who can pull from the best of both disciplines and know how and when to combine - or not.

Again, the very best of luck.

And, oh, you might want to read about rife or the Bionic 880.

Each employs different technology yet many have seen some good results. You can do a search here for many discussion threads.

and this site is just about rife and lyme.

The Bionic 880 is a treatment being done in Germany. It may not be accessible now, but several from here are going over for it. It's at least worth a glance if you are interested in alternatives to abx.

We saw regular LLMD's for two years. We were still as sick as on day one.

We then saw only doctors who use all avenues to treat Lyme - I got well, but it took a minimum of 5 years. My husband still had Lyme after ten years.

Then we got the Bionic treatment in Germany that I have posted about, and all Lyme has been eradicated after 8 treatments (for my husband).
That includes all co-infections. It also started the heavy metal outflow that we had a hard time budging while the infections were still in him.
Now they almost seem to come out on their own, but ever so slowly.

If you want to get well, do not overlook the treatment that the Bionic 880 delivers. I have dealt with many different light approaches, none of them have done what the Bionic did = get rid of Lyme.

I am definitely not saying do not do abx or whatever satisfies you, but know that there is another treatment that works better than anything else I have found since 1996. With the money we have had to put out for two people, husband and wife, over the years, we could have bought many Bionics and suffered a lot less pain and agony and heartache.

Take care.

P.S. The Bionic 880 and earlier similar models have been available for eight years. I didn't know about it. Dr. K. did not know about it. I found out about it from family friends in Germany by pure chance and then started to investigate and call other people who have been treated with this instruments/i.e. photons that instrument puts out.

Yes, GiGi has a very good point.

I wish the Bionic 880 were available to everyone. However, when you take all that is spent over years of treatment, often, it could fund a trip to Germany for treatment for a few weeks and the guidance for follow-up care and support measures.

My point about any holistic doctor you see knowing all about lyme - how the LLLMDs treat it - is so as to not underestimate its power.

Know how they all do it and why - and they go beyond that.

I'm not thrilled that I live in a state with the motto "no lyme here" ties the hands of doctors, but I have had a terrible time with most drugs, anyway.

I do think naturopathic medicine is marvelous in many ways. Attention to liver and adrenal support - or treating for heavy metals - is stuff most MDs ignore.

You just need to be sure your holistic doctor is as educated as possible about the nature of these stealth infections.

And, then, you might share information about the Bionic 880 with your doctor. Hopefully, some doctors here will become interested in this safer way to treat.

I'll see if I can find a thread that works and come back with the link.

GiGi might be able to post a link for you. It would be nice for new people to have a place to learn more about this.

She is very knowledgeable about Lyme. She has treated and is treating many patients for it. One of which is someone i know who has Lyme and is further along in her treatment and is feeling and doing great. She deals with Lyme, coinfections, yeast and all the things associated with Lyme including metals and Detoxing the liver. She is a huge wealth of info on Lyme to talk to.

Candlequeen-- you might ask your practioner to do some research on biotensors. it might help on her evaluations. I think GiGi has found some great things to not only improve us, but our practioner's as well. [Smile]
