Occasionally my morning urine is dark yellow/orange then it clear up to near clear rest of day. Also sometimes I see what look like small clear strings which seem to evaporate when I touch them? Could that be the remnant of lyme or babs?

Does this mean I need to back off the herbs?
Taking one Art capsule plus 10 drops of cryptolepsis daily for 6 weeks- so far.

Dark urine is a symptom of babesia. It may not be from your herbs at all.

I am not sure about this, but the dark urine phenomenon is probably very significant. I would see a lyme literate doctor.

I think it has something to do with either babesia's effect on the red blood cells, or something with the liver or kidneys. I'm sure you could look it up online.

Not sure if it's a die-off, or a sign that you need serious medical treatment for your babesia (soon).......but either way, though you would want to know that "dark urine" is a common babs symptom.

Makes me think the infection is either dying or flaring really badly. Check it out though, could be dangerous...I dunno.

I HIGHLY doubt the strings you see are dead anything, because these bugs are microscopic. I think this sounds like it needs medical attention soon.

Best case scenario, the herbs are killing something, but these strings in the urine, etc.......that is scary to me.

I am not a doctor at all...not an expert.....but that is what I would conjecture at this point.

How much water are you drinking per day?

First, you might try drinking more water during the day and a full glass if you get up during the night.

By chance, are you taking beta carotene or drinking carrot juice? Are you taking any pharmaceutical or over the counter pills that may have orange urine as a side-effect?

I assume you don't eat processed foods that contain food coloring. (?)

Urine color

Excerpts:

Here's a look at possible causes for abnormal urine color:

Orange urine is hard to miss.

Blame it on:

_. Foods and supplements.

Leading food culprits include vitamin C and carrots and carrot juice. Large amounts of carotene, the orange pigment in carrots, winter squash and other vegetables, can also discolor the palms of your hands and soles of your feet.

_. Medications.

Rx - rifampin

Medications that can turn urine orange include the antibiotic rifampin; the blood thinner warfarin (Coumadin); phenazopyridine (Pyridium), which treats urinary tract discomfort; some laxatives and certain chemotherapy drugs.

Dehydration. Drinking too few fluids can concentrate urochrome, making urine much deeper in color.

And,

certain colors of urine may be caused by one of the 11 types of porphyria. It might also accompany a secondary or chronic porphyria.

Although you are only taking one artemsinin a day, it does use the liver detox pathway Cytochrome P-450 and that is the pathway that is affected by the porphyrias.

Some people can't process out certain chemicals or toxins such as specific meds, molds, new carpet, scented products, etc. Porphyria is one condition that has many symptoms.

Porphyria can have many types and can be genetic or acquired from chemical poisoning. Porphyrins are normally in everyone as a process of metabolism. However, when EXCESS porphryins build up, that presents problems for people without the necessary enzymes.

First, see if drinking more water helps. And, if porphyria is a player, beta carotene or carrot juice is one of the very best things you can do as it helps lower excess porphyrins.

Is there any sort of documentation or Dr's references to dark urine bing a common babs symptom? Something I could show my doctor?
thanks

ALSO

Does anyone know if antibiotics and Mepron would be less likely or more likely to produce such side effects. I mean if I have Babs (Igenex saw antibodys?) maybe its best for me to start of herbs first if things are so sensitive as they seem to be, no? thanks, JL

Regardless of speculation, can you take a sample in for a basic urinalysis? You want to be sure there is no blood or other signs that go flashing at them from the sample.

It could turn out to be something quite different from all our suggestions.

Disease Pathogenesis of Babesia (Usually in Cows or Humans)

Main article: Babesiosis

[edit] Clinical Signs

The temperature of the animal will rise rapidly, with a fever which persists for weeks. Dullness and listlessness with a loss of appetite are also common. Anemia due to loss of red blood cells becomes very severe. Also, because these red blood cells are being lysed (bursting), jaundice (a yellowing of the skin and eyes) and hemoglobinuria are common. Urine may appear red and internal organs may become damaged.[2]

This is speaking about animals and/or humans.

I am suprised you aren't familiar with this; most lists of babesia symptoms that include 10 or more symptoms list "dark urine." It may not be the most common, and I always assumed that is because the disease has to be severe for it to get to that point that the urine is dark, but it is one of the "tell tale" symptoms.

Tell your doctor.

Also, I took Mepron and it did not make my urine dark. At that point though, I had probably been infected for 12 years, so it was in more of a chronic state for me. I would think if the urine becomes dark, that means there is a very high parasite load. Once again, that is all guessing.

I'm not sure I need to provide documentation about dark urine though, because it is a very common symptom. Your doctor should know.
