I am looking for a good probiotic that does not need to be refrigerated for when I travel. I may not have access to a fridge for 5 days.

Any ideas? Thanks. Hiker53

Hey Hiker,

I was told by the representative that Theralac is shelf stable for 30 days.

I also have used the tiny Pearls. They do not require cold.

Great minds think alike. I was going to say the same thing, Ms Mel!

I sometimes buy the one Buhner recommends in Healing Lyme
called PB8 "14 Billion good bacteria per serving" and the price is reasonable too.

It does not contain magnesium stearate which is a plus.

PB8 is supposed to be refrigerated, isn't it??

I used it for years not knowing it was virtually worthless. When I switched to Theralac it made all the difference in the world.

Hi Guys [Smile]

Well while we are talkin about Pro-Biotics, I take something called DDS Plus 5 billion CFU/g.

I take at the same time daily. I sure hope I'm taking the right stuff here. [Big Grin]

Oh and yes, it is the kind that needs the fridge.

If my memory serves me correctly (who knows sometimes with lyme) PB8 is NOT to be put in the refrigerator because I think I called the company and asked.

When I purchase mine it is not in the refrigerator and I think putting it in the refrigerator from what I recall when I called the company is not good for it.

I noticed one major food chain out of Texas has it in the refrigerator but their excuse was they keep all their probiotics in there even I after I told them to remove it from the cold.

OK Going to check and see if there is anything on the bottle re: refrigeration for PB8.

It is the frig at the local health food store and at the local market.

But, I did notice the local market also had it on the shelf.

I have been keeping it in the frig since 2003 when I started treatment with abx.

This has worked great for me. It says it does not need refrigeration, so I take it with me on trips or when I am out of the house for the day:

Jarro-Dophilus EPS
Jarrow Formulas

I know it works for me 'cause I take plenty of oral abx and have a happy and healthy gut.

Look into ohhira's, It's a gel capsule and doesn't need refrigeration. It starts out at just under a billion organisms. The difference, it is created to double the size of the colony in the capsule every 30 minutes for 8 hours. Do the math its in the trillions of organisms.

I liked it when I was taking it.

Sent an email to the company that makes PB8.

Lost the email.

But, basically the reply was it is OK for PB8 to not be refrigerated if it is kept under 78 degrees.

Reminded me of the first probiotics I brought. By the time I got them home they were all stuck together and melted in the truck of the car.

Packets? If you have a way to mix in a glass of water.

I take probiotics in with my greens powder.

While the canister needs refrigeration after it's opened, they make packets for travel and they don't need to be refrigerated.

The packets are a little more expensive (and this is not cheap to begin with) but it contains lots of good ingredients, including enzymes.

I like to take the packets for use on a plane or any outing as the green powder helps my energy and help blood sugar not take a dive.

Amazon has good prices and other outlets may as well. Some grocery stores carry it if you are in a hurry.

The label states it is gluten-free, but for those who must avoid the sprouts of barley or wheatgrass, this would not be appropriate. DNA tests show I have a 96% likelihood of being celiac. I can't eat any gluten. Yet, I do VERY well with this powder.

My ND says that the grass and sprouts don't contain gluten. However, anyone who is very sensitive should still be cautious and I know some here have to avoid the sprout and grass forms.

Lots of new probiotics are now "micro encapsulated."

Which basically means they will stay until moisture invaded, or digested.

Primal Defense Ultra.

It's supposed to be really good, with soil enzymes (?) -- i take it but i have no idea if it's better than PB8, which i used to take.
