"MANGANESE ANTAGONISTS IN THE NUTRITION OF LACTOBACILLUS ACIDOPHILUS

WARNER W. CARLSON 1, LOUTS V. FARINA 1, and VIRGINIA WHITESIDE-CARLSON 1
1 Biochemistry Department, Medical College and School of Dentistry, University of Alabama, Birmingham, Ala.

1. For Lactobacillus acidophilus 4646 it has been found that
manganese is essential for growth.

2. Chelating agents such as ***sodium citrate*** or sodium ethylenediamine tetra acetate, which are capable of

forming nonionized complexes with manganese ion,

effectively inhibited growth of the bacteria.

The inhibitory effect could be reversed by higher levels of the metallic ion.

3. Potassium fluoride inhibited growth of L. acidophilus 4646 but only at relatively high concentrations. The effect was not reversed by added manganese.

Submitted on March 24, 1952"

1. We KNOW, for fact, that Bb uses Manganese (Mn) to a huge degree.

2. If Bb is depleting Mn levels...this will impact lactobacillus to a huge degree. So taking a LOT of lactobacillus acidophilus to restore the number, may be absolutely needed.

3. When you figure out the sodium citrate connections, be careful!!! Pros and CONS!!!

(Find the links re: sodium citrate and coagulation and malaria too.)

Anyone remember the discussion re: Alka Seltzer a long time ago?

P.S. BIG birthday party for mom now out of the way...and hurricane prep (finishing off garage storage) done and computer finally back up and working...so onto more research...

Fluoride--that figures. Has anyone taken

any steps to reduce fluoride intake, and if so,

noticed any improvement?

I've avoided fluoride for most of my life. I became allergic to it at an early age.

I think it's frightening that they put it in EVERYTHING!!!! Now they are adding it to bottled water for our children!! [Eek!] [Eek!]

There are filters that can get it out, though, right?

Well, I'll check into it--it really is one of the most toxic substances

out there (it's widely known to cause brain damage.)

If you ask me, giving us chronic lyme is just another part of the same agenda...

Most filters (like those in refrigerators where the water and ice come thru the door) do NOT remove fluoride.

Somewhere in my many files, I have an article by a PhD who attributed fluoride to the "dumming down" of Americans.

Want to be really freaked about fluoride?

Bb has an absolute need for Mn. Esp. in all of the many enzymes it uses.

In us...with a Mg deficiency, Mn can substitute for Mg only to a degree.

Would I intentionally increase manganese - take Mn supplements (in addition to consuming the amount that is in foods)? No.

Would I take the probiotics (LOTS)and let THEM use the Mn in foods...less for Bb.

I'm going to try to get something like this soon, and will

keep you posted on the results I have with it.
