I have a friend who told me this in an email -
"On Wednesday last week I was hit by a virus that gave me the chills and muscle aches. On Thursday night I somehow hurt my arm and the throbbing would not let me sleep. Then noticed that my nerves in my arms were going crazy and my legs were aching at nighttime. needless to say, I have now gone to Doc and chiro yesterday and I am doing some excercises to get my strength back in my arms, shoulders etc. "
He said he has not been anywhere he might have gotten bitten by a tick. This came on suddenly like the flu. He did get bitten a year or two ago, but has not had any symptoms.
I realize this *could* be Lyme and we have talked about it. What I don't know is, what else could it be if it's not Lyme?
Thanks.

Well, I guess it COULD be a virus. Or maybe that pain syndrome. RSD?? Then again, the injury may have activated the dormant Lyme he may have gotten last year??
If he got a virus it could have activated the dormant Lyme also.
I hope someone else has a better idea!!

Thanks, Lymetoo. He didn't actually do anything to hurt his arm, it just started hurting. I talked to him today and he says he hasn't been able to sleep his legs ache so bad .... not like aching, sounds more like nerve pain.

This doesn't sound like any normal illness I can think of.
He is, for no reason, having a lot of nerve pain. And, that was preceded by something like a flu virus.
I wonder if his doc would be willing to give him a course of doxy, just to see if it would help him. If it does, that could be significant.

six...have him print out the Lyme Basic booklet from http://lympa.org
It is primer on the tick disases not just lyme.
I'd say any of the tick diseases can cause these symptoms.
No noticing a RECENT tick bite is quitew common as you already know.

- dmc,
That excellent link didn't go through. Here's that with an "e" added:
I would caution your friend not to have the neck suddenly twisted as some chiropractors do. For more gentle body work methods such as Upledger and Feldenkrais: ---------------

Thanks, everyone, for the ideas. I agree that it is suspiciously Lyme-like. I just wondered what more accepted illnesses might be somewhat similar so he could have his regular doctor rule them out.
I think he's concerned it is Lyme, too, which would explain why he called me about it.

Parvo can do weird lyme-like things. So can the various herpes type viruses (not the genital variety)..
