Today I start flagyl for the first time (also takign doxy and cipro)

What can I expect from the flagyl? What advice do you have in taking it? Am I going to go through a week of hell? Might it not be that bad?

Ive never taken Flagyl, although Tindamax is another cyst buster and Im on that. I noticed some herxes the first couple of days, then things calmed down.

As for what will happen, as with anything new to the body, youll likley either notice nothing, or go through oddities.

Sometimes the worrying about it before it happens just makes it worse. I know its not easy, but try to simply think of taking the meds as a routine, and that everytime you take them, you're killing the lyme.

You may get sicker with herx reactions, but in the end, you should feel better.

Clint,

I had seen quite a few bad posts about Flagyl so I was nervous when my husband started it. However, he has made alot of progress on it. I hope it turns out the same for you.

started the flagyl around 12:30.

Already I have some uneasiness. I have an unreal cramp/kink in my neck. I also am having air hunger. Is this brought on by a 'herx' like of the drug? Should I worry.

took my first one at 1: 00 today and already I have an uneasy feeling, a kink in my neck and somse air hunger. Is this just part of the 'herx' reaction or killing the bugs? Also should I worry.

I did very well on Flagyl. However, I had a terrible yeast problem the entire time I was on it, which was about 9 months.

No matter what I did, even being on an antifungal, I could not get the yeast under control.

So be very diligent about watching your sugar/carbohydrate intake and be sure you are taking plenty of probiotics. You may also want to include oil of oregano in your daily regime.

Whew! Flagyl knocked me out the first time I took it. I had to stop taking it.

When I restarted, my LLMD had me start out at 1/4 tablet twice a week and work up very slowly to 2 tablets a day.

It took a while to get up to the dose he wanted me at, but it greatly reduced my herxes.

I am not sure if all LLMDs would agree with him, though. I have heard of others who would like their patients to take the full dose from the beginning.

I'm on Flagyl IV, but only once a week to go between my IV rocephin, so not sure how that works in to what you are doing. But so far, something has totally kicked my butt.

Hopefully positive will come from that.

Clint, how much did you take? I've heard reports that the brand name Flagyl is better than the generic.

I have some I picked up tonight. I'm waiting for the weekend to try my "sliver." I've tried Tindamax and generic Flagyl in the past, but I couldn't tolerate it.

I'll be following your progress.

Good luck.

the classic question -

How will you know if it's killing something or if it's just the drug recking havoc on your system?

I wonder if pulsing tindamax helps decrease the yeast prob.

Clint,
I started Flagyl about 3 weeks ago. I am trying to work up to the 3x per day dose.

It has been hard. I have gotten to three only to have to reduce back to 2.

But, I do notice that I have some good hours lately (not days yet). And my muscle spasms have decreased somewhat after sooooo long with them.

I am going to keep going...hope you get relief too.

I just restarted Flagyl last night at 1/4 pill. Today I feel tired and flulike. How does one deal with the Flagyl? Is it worth it?

Thanks,
CherylSue

Get ready for the headache from heck!!!!

The kind that you want to take your head off your neck. [Eek!]

I pulsed flagyl with doxy.

I took flagyl 750mg ER. Definitely easier to take one pill than 3.

However, I worked my way up to this dose starting at 250mg.

If I took it late in the day, it would keep me from sleeping.

Flagyl is a major yeast grower. It will kill all the good flora.

Watch the diet carefully, take diflucan as needed, and a really good probiotic.

Hugs,

Geneal

When I tried it, it caused severe depression and crying. Had to go off after 3 days.

So I would be aware of any mood changes or depressed thoughts, etc.

Good Luck! I hope it works for you!
